Speaking as somebody who was fanatically mad keen to get a truck licence many years ago 
, I do fail to see what exactly is the.attraction today exactly. 
It is a well known well publicised fact that in order to get a decent figure of money paid, you need to work excessive ridiculous hours, which stops it being actual ‘good money’…but even before you get to that point you can no longer go straight to Class1 anymore, so you need to jump through hoops in stages to the tune of over …3 grand. 
I almost wish it had been like that when I was wanting to start, at least I would have been sensible and prudent enough to be put off it. 
and more than likely be a lot better off today than what I am.
