PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION

Remember when going scotch (if from the south), or going down to the smoke (if from the north), was long distance?
When Middle East work was readily available?.
When driving a 111 or F89 meant you were truly the king of the road?
Recall those companies long gone, where every day was an adventure?

What ever happened to those drivers you spent hours with.. where did they go? and recollect on those characters in the industry sadly no longer with us.
This forum is for us all to indulge in a little nostalgia and remember with rose coloured glasses how much better it was in the olden days

Hi Carl,
Although Dean points out the photo was taken in 2003 quite a few of these R plate volvo's were still on the road up until about two years ago....i think there maybe the odd one still in service....but in all fairness the bodies on the 6 leg volvo's were all built by Bevans from the Midlands .....and were designed to be very hard wearing with very few gadgets so one fits all ramps and so on .....so not suprised they still look good with a new coat of paint.

The new Pickfords these days are putting these old Bevans bodies on second hand chassis .....a lot of these refurbished trucks are then sold to the franchised members around the country...
.they also build bodies in certain parts of the country and plant them on second hand chassis ....and also buy second hand trucks also these days.

So they do run vehicles of a very old age these days.

Regards Mark

Pickfords have lost the plot when it comes to buying trucks these days it seems Mark. They seem to buy anything, have seen alot of
box trucks rather than proper pantecnicons. Alot cheaper to buy.

Atkins opened their café at Findern in 1968,nice and clean place and good snap. You had to be careful not to park in any of their VMU parking slots as the foreman would contact your firm and complain. A friend of mine came to grief doing that as he had booked off at Tewkesbury...………………….  -----------and got trailer number P45.

Here is a photo of My father in his Mercedes meeting one of our drivers at Atkins Derby. I believe it was a breakfast meeting when he treated the driver to breakfast. Atkins staff never complained & infact I got that still from a promotion video they had commissioned but I suspect it was the car then only a few months old rather than the van

Cheers for that.Dean.
The trucks I drove pulling for Ewals in their colours were MANs (including the older models) a DAF, and a Scania on an R reg.
I think you put one up a few months ago, an XXL MAN, but it was not one the motors that I drove...but I keep living in hope mate.
The pic with the left hooker Scania Topliner was my era, they belonged to MTC (Mega trucking co) based in Zeebrugge and a depot at Alconbury, my ex guvnor in Colchester broke away from MTC, most drivers were Brit drivers home based.

Hi Dean Mullards had a factory in Southampton on the right as you went into the town and they were part of the Philips group.
As for SFM specialist freight movements they had a yard near Cobden bridge in Southampton and had a contract out of ISR in Fawley refinery doing synthetic rubber to packing units at Membury airfield and at Yatesbury run by Sym's of Calne. I had two trucks on that work back then, two loads up and one back of salt stored at Yatesbury every day and we knew every pothole on that road that's for sure. Buzzer

I think the Mullard truck is part of the Philips Group, the Dutch electrical company.

Dave.

They were a famous electronics components manufacturer especially known for their cathode ray tubes used in TV's and wartime radar development. There was also Rediffusion at Chessington which was another big domestic TV manufacturer.

Morning Dean,
D.Doyle was a demolition company based in Birmingham and Pete Windrush is correct regarding the F7 belonging to Rayven transport of Halesowen.
Thank you also for the Sammy Jones's feature, Cookie1 is your man to comment on those! Cheer's Pete

Mullard stuck a chord :o , in my youth and pre electric we had a Cossor wireless complete with Mullard radio valves and a wet battery called an accumulator.
