I can see the queues, the mud and remember the places mentioned. Between Istanbul and Edirne I saw The Northern Lights. I remember the lorries queued side by side in rows at KA. The sheep dip was designed like a WW2 tank trap.
I used a small border between Yugoslavia and Italy too, I couldn’t get through Cezanne Trieste and found a small village border. I remember the agent saying he could help me, but the only way I was able to pay was with a UK “Sterlina”cheque which he wasn’t happy about.

When I got back he had managed to cash my cheque for around £200.

It was all a steep learning curve [emoji23]
