I remember one night late 1968 I had just left Parkway Market Sheffield for a Abbey Wood S.E. trailer change and was on the M1 before the M1/M18 split when I saw a wagon on fire. On closer inspection it was a Thorpes tandem axled trailer on fire on hard shoulder and driver had pulled Atki unit off away from the blazing sheets and tyres. He was sat ont grass bank chucking clods of earth at his tractor playing hell about it’s 150 Gardner -“wouldna pull thi granny off her ■■■■ pot” and “should have been Atki on bloody fire instead of t’trailer”.I had a quick ■■■ with him and left when fire service turned up.
