Well, yes actually. You don’t need the Army and police to actually DO anything (bearing in mind the Police don’t do anything now!)
What I’m seeing coming here is a time when a wave of civil disobedience gives way to what I’ll call “Righteous Indignation” violence against the kind of lawbreakers that our polizei can’t be arsed to mop up any longer.
Was it the armed soldiers manning the guillotines? - Nope. Just “Citizen Robespierre” types, who didn’t last much longer, as even he got fed to his own “revolutionary inquisition” (Reign of Terror) in the end. Perhaps he should have stopped when all the aristocrats that couldn’t bribe their way out of the country - were topped? - No. He had to slide the bar down to take out middle class people as well. Once it became apparent that anyone owning more than the clothes they stood up in was at risk of La Guillotine as much as the bewigged aristocracy - the end was nigh for the “first” round of “Hard Left” Republicanism. Bonaparte would have found it easy to take over when he did a few years hence, because he’d got noticed, and there was no one else who wanted the bloody job of running France by that point!
Imagine what would happen in the near future if say, Labour were to win an outright majority election victory (doesn’t matter how large…) and the first things they did was to SCRAP Brexit (because the EU offered them meaty concessions only for the UK establishment’s benefit for doing thus) and also started PERSECUTING those rabble raisers, such as protesting Brexiteers, anyone Right of Karl Marx, and anyone with enough cash left to pay fines for all kinds of new “Offences” for so much as “walking on the cracks in the pavement in a funny way”.
The main reason the death penalty was done away with in this country - was to protect those at the top from those at the bottom.
If Law and Order breaks down though - who will give a ■■■■ about “What’s on the statute books, and what’s not”?
Mind you, we Brits would probably resort to traditional Hemp rather than bugger about with sliding blade contraptions…
