I am going (by car) to Whitby for a long weekend (our Ruby wedding anniversary) from Kent about 1 am on Friday. I haven’t seen anything recently about nightime closures on the A1. Are there currently any diversions etc in operation please?

For the past few nights 48-49 has been shut, and earlier in the week it was shut at Barnsdale Bar. To be honest though the diversions are ok and not taking you miles out of the way. Other than those two I don’t know of any others further south.
On the other side of the coin it could be entirely open round our way as it has been on the odd night

As said the closures have been higher up. I’d be more worried about the M11, A14, M1 closures. 48 to 49 was a one off whilst they reconfigured the lanes for a contraflow and you won’t be affected by 50-51 as you’ll have got off at either 44 to go up the A64/A169 or 49 to go up the A168/A19/A170 and take A169 from Pickering to Whitby.
If it says its shut anywhere between J36 and 41 as you approach the M18 take M18 northbound, M62 eastbound, off at J37 then take A614 to Driffield, nip up B1249 which will take you back on to the A64 near Scarborough and you can then go up to Whitby from there.

Must have been lucky and missed it. Not the end of the world if it is, adds an extra couple of miles.

Only M1 I’ve seeen the last 2 weeks have been around 23a to 25a on the M1
