Bowel problems

A recent report I read mentioned truck drivers have bad bowels, I for one have suffered from inflammatory bowel disease for years(before I started trucking) but has anyone else had bowel problems of any sort eg constipation diahorrea , crohns , colitis etc or indeed anyone with an ostomy out there trucking would love to hear everyone’s opinions on this.

I have had serious bowel problems for the last five years, but I never put it down to driving trucks.
I would love to see the report you mention
My doctors have all said it is caused by my diabetes, and I have just got to live with it

It was in either a newspaper or truck mag and it was how we eat at the wrong times hold on when needing to go etc I wasn’t aware diabetes caused bowel problems very interesting.

Best to take care of what you eat and wash your hands before eating etc… btdt :frowning:

Hope your keeping better young man I had a bowel op a few weeks back and have another one after Christmas.

i suffer a lot with constipation, probably due to “holding it in”,so tend to take a laxative at the end of the week.tried taking it through the week once NEVER AGAIN !! ended up squatting between the truck and the roadside hedge (couldnt get parked near the gate to the field) and hoping a passing police car wouldnt spot me :frowning:

Thanks, i ended up in hospital for a week to help me recover and they’ve said its crohns, so im on steroids for the next few weeks then move onto another drug, which i’ll be on for a minimum of five years, hope all your operations go well.

Yup i have bad bowls unforutnatly if i have to go i have to go no matter where i am and believe me that is a problem especially in traffic and you see the sign “no services on the motorway” many times ive had to go under the trailer.

My eldest lad was diagnosed with Crohns when he was 17, about 5 years ago, it’s a nasty little disease, you have my sympathy.

The steroids will hopefully control the disease & allow you to function more normally, however, it is a hit & miss affair, my lad was on them for nearly a year but they didn’t really work so eventually he had an operation to remove infected parts of his intestines.

Now he’s in good health, he needed a 2nd operation about 3 years ago, but he recovered from that quite quickly, nowadays he’s free from pain & continual bouts of diarrhoea. He’s even taken up playing football in a local league with his mates again.

Hopefully things work out for you. If you’re still having problems then look at your diet, certain foods are known to irritate the bowels in those with Crohn’s, by cutting out certain foodstuffs could ease your suffering a bit. Good luck.

Thanks, im 17 now and apparently this is the most common age to get it or thereabouts, ive had the camera’s done and they’ve said its not bad enough to require surgery, ive got it in both my large and small intestine but luckily ive not got diarrhoea or anything like that, i just get horrific stomach pains and nausea, but the tablets im taking are controlling it well enough at the moment, slowly coming off my steroids again! Last time i came off them, it was done to quick and i ended up with depression and getting ill again but im much better now cheers, ive cut out all the foods that are high in fibre which is what i was told to do by my specialist doctor so everythings rosey at the moment (touches wood).

Good lad glad to hear it v

Had a bad case of depression after a doctor messed up bringing me off the steroids but ive been put back on them and ive been fine since, slowly coming off them now, so at the moment im on steroids, mecaptapurine, calcium tablets and vitamin tablets. How did your operations go and how’ve you been since?

Haven’t been too bad still waiting for another op and to possibly change from azathioprine to mercaptopurine. But we will just plow on.
