We are doing a promotional giveaway of various PC mapping navigation software programs including USB GPS receivers for laptops/netbooks/tablets/UMPC, starting today, December 11 to 17, 2009.
Well good idea . any mapping is good but i do like the autoroute for me when im able to add bridges etc . In my view the laptop in the cab is becoming another useful tool and with that software (updated ) its like having a new map every few months.
Never used the street atlas but that looks very interesting also.As for the iguidance , never used one but wouldn’t mind a bash at it.
To be honest a play/trial run with these would be great,
Thanks for the offer
Gez, I should have mentioned that not all of the above products come with map data for Europe. Street Atlas by DeLorme is only a North American product, just as iGuidance is (the European version of iGuidance was discontinued a couple of versions ago). Garmin Mobile PC has a version for Europe and another version for USA/Canada. Microsoft Streets & Trips covers USA/Canada/Mexico, and it is the same software like Microsoft AutoRoute 2010 for Europe. Could be useful if you plan a vacation there one day, of if you just want the included USB GPS receiver.

So would only Autoroute gps cover the uk then as i only tramp here ,haven’t been over the water in truck for many years.
thanks for reply
sounds good to me - I was just about to ask what routing software to use as I’ve just bought a laptop specificly for this (and for watching films on nights out). Do any programs have vehicle size and weight restrictions like a trucker’s atlas?
A very generous offer anyway so all the best and happy christmas.
autoroute has to be the one for me i had it installed on my previous laptop along with the gps receiver which some little scrote made off with when the truck parked outside the yard yes the truck was locked and the lappy hidden they smashed a window to get in
although the laptop has since been replaced i have yet to replace the autoroute
The winners of Garmin Mobile PC will be asked if they wish to receive the European or the North American version. So for UK use, go for either Microsoft AutoRoute or Garmin Mobile PC software. (The hardware from any of the above packages could still be used anywhere in the world, though.)
are these items time limited i.e.u get them for 6/12 months or will they be the winner/s for ever
I use Microsoft autoroute 2007 on the new2010 one has the lock up in leaving a trail of your route using GPS been fixed has this was a fault in 2007 version it could not keep up only when going at slow speeds did it work. When using my 2007 with GPS i have changed the speed on all the sliders to slow when using it for the truck ((wish they would put the speed back as per 2004 version) and it seems to work does it automatically change arrival times due to the speed you are going ?
the 2001 version was good as it had a translation mode in it for languages why have they not carried the on to later versions.
Have they updated the post codes in the 2010 one.
i wouldnt mind a pop at autoroute as i use it on my home pc for finding addresses (when the wife is at home anyway) not much use to me on the road though.
it will come in handy as the only addresses we get are like “royal theatre plymouth” no address, postcode or anything so having it on the laptop will be easier than having to search on google then over to the tomtom and when it cant find it back to the laptop.
