Lost, Stolen or Malfunctioning Digital Tachograph Card

Where it is not possible to use your digital tachograph card, because it has been lost, stolen or it has malfunctioned, you may legally contuinue to drive without the card for a maximum of 15 calendar days,or longer if required for the vehicle to be returned to its base.

You must report the problem to the DVLA within 7 days, telephone 0300 790 6109, 08:00 - 20:30 Monday to Friday and 08:00 - 17:30 Saturday. If the card has been stolen you must also report the theft to the police. You can order a replacement card, and pay for it using a credit or debit card, over the phone if no details need changing on your card. Otherwise you apply for a new one using form D777B.

You must produce two printouts, one at the start of the shift and another at the end. On both printouts you must write -

Your name or driver card or licence number, so you can be identified.

Any manual entries required to show periods of other work, availability, and break.*

Your signature.

*This is for periods when you may not have access to a vehicle during your shift, when changing vehicles for instance. You don’t need to make manual entries for periods when you are using a vehicle, you use the mode switch as normal for those times.
