advice please ive had my digi card stolan from cab in spain i am i still allowed to drive vehicle back to uk
dvla infomed spainish police infomed c/no
digi taco
You must report the theft within 7 days, which it appears you have already done, and you can continue to drive for up to 15 days. Take a printout at the start and end of each shift and sign the printout and also write either your driving licence number or digi card number and name on it.
why would someone steal a digi card? for one thing it’s got a photo on it and can only be used to drive a truck not acceptable as I.D. in spain
must have been a truck driver who stole it because he would have had to know how to book you off and say no to a printout before the card comes out?

You are assuming the card was in the tacho at the time, it might not have been. Some drivers take them out at the end of the shift and put them back in the next day even when on a night out.

why would you take the card out if on a night out away from base? especially in spain or france!
card out of truck in spain means you could be somewhere else working possible fine and the french have the same attitude, its like the old “rule” about leaving your paper disc in overnight in europe but not in the UK

I’ve no idea why, but plenty do, in fact I probably know more who take it out than leave it in. Don’t understand it myself as it’s easier to leave it in.

True, but it still doesn’t explain why anyone else would want it, unless it wasn’t singled out ie in a wallet.

They may not have wanted it, they may not have even know what it was. Break into cab, grab everything that looks like it’s worth having as quickly as possible, and it is a credit card sized bit of plastic so grab that as well. Get the [zb] out of there and sort through the spoils later, binning the stuff that is no good, which could well include the digi card…

becouse i was on a 12 hr break was park in garage was looking for collection address all you lot ask the mst silly questions all i want to know if i am ok to drive vehicle back to uk lol
AFAIK as long as you’ve got confirmation of robbery from police you are OK to drive without it just do printout every day and fill the back in like a paper tacho
where were you parked? what truck do you have? some must be easier to access than others

You don’t need to fill in the back of the printout and only one printout per day could land you in trouble with the authorities The correct procedure is to take a printout at the start of the shift and one at the end, all the activities are then on the second printout so no need to fill in the back. You then sign both printouts and enter either your driving licence or digi card number. You keep the printouts with you for at least 29 days and hand them in by the 43rd day.

And I answered your question about whether you could drive or not 10 minutes after you asked it, and gave information on the procedure to keep you legal.
I was only curious as to why the card wasn’t in the tacho unit as it is much safer in there (it wouldn’t have been stolen in this instance). It is easier to leave it in than take it out at the end of each shift, just stick it on rest and enter end country (and region if required) and you are done. Although it isn’t a legal requirement It will also cause you less grief if you are stopped in any controls. Wallets can easily be lost or sadly in your case stolen, and it doesn’t have to be from a cab.

Whoever you spoke to at VOSA was talking out of their arse. There is no requirement to take it out at the end of duty unless someone else will be using the vehicle. When I went to work at the start of the week and would be away for a few days the card stayed in the whole time, the same if I was weekended or parked for a day.
I will second Neils’ comments regarding the VOSA person not knowing what they are talking about. Nothing wrong in leaving your driver card in the tacho provided that no-body else is going to use the vehicle, that the correct mode is being recorded and the ‘end country’ has been entered correctly.
Just one point on the printouts, you need to write the following on all printouts that are being used to keep records where the card is; lost, stolen, damaged or malfunctioning;
full name
driver card number or driver licence number
sign the printout
