Nobbynufc:
… displaying a silver plate with a capital letter A on it.

Can someone put me out of my misery and let me know what this means?

Nobbynufc,

Wheel Nut has this correct, but I can add a little to it.

According to a German law about transfrontier waste Abfallverbringungsgesetz (shortened to AbfVerbrG) § 10, the plate is supposed to be 40cm X 30cm (same size, positioning and orientation as an ADR orange plate) and be white reflective with the capital letter “A” (20cm min height) in black.

The fine for contravention of plate marking requirements (at AbfVerbrG § 18) can be up to €20,000, so I’d say that the guy needs to get his plate(s) correct before entering Germany. :open_mouth:
