Removing Speed Limiter

ok so im a bit confused as to the law, ive been a’googlin’ but cant find anything.

if i convert a 7.5tonner to a motor home, register it as such etc can i remove the limiter as it will no longer be a hgv/lgv or whatever terminology we’re using at the moment…

im thinking not but still… worth asking.

remember and change the v5 to read.private hgv for the taxation class, and for the body type change it to read.motor caravan…
once you mot it then bin the limiter and get on with it till you get a dig, then you will know for sure.
just watch out for camera vans.

Youd also have to notify insurance company Id think? “Modifications”

Dunno what they would say? “That`ll attract a sizable discount” is the least likely reply.

well as it will be insured as conversion, not yet completed, im fairly sure they will expect it to have non standard features :grimacing:

tthe insurance will be a doddle if you use a specialist self build insurer.
pm me if you want a good co thatl insure you without the drama and no interrogation for modifications ext.

^^^^^ Anthony Edwards? They insured all my race buses.

ive got a quote for £350 including uk breakdown… through asda as a broker.(as a conversion in progress) i can live with that :grimacing:

an answer from the horses mouth about the orignal question.

Good morning,

This vehicle as it will still have load space to carry a race car, can’t be registered as a motorhome in the same way a horsebox can’t. It is a living van and therefore must retain the speed limiter and must be plated and tested as a goods vehicle.

But this wasn’t the original question you asked

You said in your opening post that the vehicle would no longer be used as a HGV vehicle, now it seems that you want to simply extend or add living accommodation to a goods vehicle that will be used to carry a race car.

yes i oversimplified/didnt add enough detail :frowning: soz, was in a hurry
