Carriage of fire extinguishers

Hoping someone with ADR knowledge could help me out.
Customer is wanting 4 fire extinguishers transporting, 2 foam and 2 carbon dioxide, is ADR needed to carry these?

No.

Fire extinguishers do count as dangerous goods, and sometimes they might be subject to ADR.

Correctly written, fire extinguishers are:

UN 1044 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, 2.2 (E)

There are a number of requirements to be met in terms of safety features, the method of packaging and the size(s) of them.
If you are the owner of the vehicle, you’ll need to check that the consignment meets the requirements, but if you’re an employed driver, then the next little paragraph answers your question…

It’s most likely that you don’t need ADR for this job if the fire extinguishers to be carried are of the normal portable (hand held/operated) type. (My guess is that they are of this type.)

TBF mate, there’s not quite enough info in the question for anybody to give an absolutely definitive answer.

Hi xichrisxi,

Sorry mate, but it’s not quite as easy as a straight “no”
