Split daily rest question

Do you have to show driving before a 3 hour rest?

I’ve had 15 mins other work at start of shift checking unit to be told run is not ready for 3 hours so had 3 hours break. Another driver has told me this wouldn’t count as a split daily rest as there is no driving on the card and only 15 mins work (As a manual Entry).

Cheers

You don’t have to show any driving before having the 3 hours of rest, if you’ve done 15 minutes other work there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a split daily rest period.

Remember though that you should still have completed the final 9 hours rest within the period of 24 hours from the start of the shift.

By the way, technically the 3 hours have to be rest not break, that means you should be free to do what you want, not that anyone’s likely to know unless you tell them

No, I mean if he’s done 15 minutes other work before the 3 hour rest period then the 3 hours rest can count as the first part of a split daily rest period.

Start 0600
Work 0600 to 0601
Rest 0601 to 0901
Work/drive with usual breaks until 2100
Rest 2100 to 0600

Full/regular daily rest using split rest rule of 3+9 hours
