Carrying a driver card?

If a HGV driver is on domestic hours rules using a driver hours book to record his/her hours of driving rest etc. Is the driver also required to carry their digital driver card on their person in case it is asked for by an enforcement officer?

The domestic regulations require a driver to carry any records that may reasonably be required by an enforcement officer to check that the driver is complying with the domestic regulations, so I would say yes a driver is required to carry the driver card is they have one.

Thanks, but what if they have never had a digi card in the past?

If they don’t have a driver card they don’t need to carry one.

DVSA can check their records to see if a driver card has been held by a driver, so they’ll know he’s telling the truth about not having one.
