Driving without a card inserted?

Why do some drivers (7.5 ton drivers in particular) think that driving without a card inserted or removing their card half way through their shift will stop them getting infringements?

They somehow do not realise that there is a vehicle calendar report and other reports that flag this event up, they also firmly place the blame on intermittent faulty cards or/and faulty VU’s on the day, to keep getting the VU checked out has a cost to it and incurs downtime.

Is this an instant dismissal offence by breaking an employment contract or is it a case of taking the time to re-educate and re-train the driver (although they already know) until they get it right.

What is the best way to approach this driver issue?

My old company sacked someone who drove about 5 miles without a card so I’d say disciplinary at least as it’s a pretty serious event.

Ive pressed eject by mistake instead of switching to POA, only to have to move straight away as my company got on the blower.

Put it back in immediately.
