Private van driving time and where to insure

Hi to All Truck Net users.
I hope that you will be able to help me in this matter.
First I do apologize, if I do or say something wrong. (I am not British citizen but driving in UK for last 11 years)
Just bought Renault mascott 5.5 ton. It was cheaper than vans up to 3.5 ton and with lower milage.
I want to use it for pleasure purposes like holidays with my family and take my quad bike or jetski.
Because tachograph is fitted my question is: what is driving or rest regulations when i am only using it, only for holidays not for buisness purposes
Also I have problem to find some good insurance company. Yeasterday I was quoted over 80 000 pounds per year  :exclamation:
Can somebody help me in this matter please if possible.
Big thank you for your help.
Kind regards Peter

As the vehicle is less than 7.5t and you won’t be using the vehicle for commercial purposes you’re exempt from all tachograph driver regulations.

£80,000 per year :open_mouth:

I can’t help with the insurance but I’m sure it won’t cost £80,000 per year

bung in 1 window,a makeshift bed and a 50 quid camping gas cooker with a dog bow for a sink…change the bodytype to motor caravan and use adrian flux for insurance which will be 230—270 ish.job done

^^^ good advice. If you get no luck with them then try Anthony Edwards insurance brokers, they specialise in low mileage motor home insurance.

Thank you All for good advice. Very kind drivers here.
Do anybody know if can I fit the wall in the back of the van separating my bikes or quad and if can I fit extra 3 seats for my kids?
Do I need to change v5 or taxation class?
Thank you for excellent ideas.

change it on the logbook to motor caravan…itl then be taxable as private hgv …tell them it seats as many as you need it to seat, then buy the seat.4 bolts,8 washers and 4 locknuts…drill the holes and job done.

Thank you for all answers and ideas.
I will get back to you when Sort it all out.

Hello again my friends
I have done a bit of research about conversions to motorhomes.
I got the insurance by Adrian flux.
I booked mot in keltruck lorry mot station in burton.
it cost 139 pounds because is plated ( i have no idea what it is?)
now the issue is:
if i fit all furniture and beds and sink with cooker plus windows and design some space on the back of the van to carry motorbike, quadbike or bicycles than this is classed as living van not motorhome.
i already sent v5 with body type motor caravan. do i have to ring them and chenge to living van and what about insurance?
i told them that i will carry some my bits in the back for my use on holiday.
Looks like the Vosa wants the people to drive 5.5 tonnes or bigger motorhomes in town centres than bicycles or scooters.
this will not help to reduce pollution in towns and cities.
Does anybody have had problem like this?
Thank you for your help
Wishing you nice weekend
