I’ve just started doing night work, anyone know what the 10hour night work rule is ? Is it something I have to opt out of ?
It’s part of the Working Time directive. Normally, working time for “mobile workers” on night shifts is restricted to a maximum of 10 hours. This can however be opted out of by a collective agreement of those employed at each site. So yes, there must be an opt-out but no, you don’t have to individually opt out (you don’t even have to agree with it - it is usually agreed on a simple majority vote).

A worker who works at any time, even 1 minute, between midnight and 4am is regarded as a night worker
