CV, things may of changed since 2007

But you could get a 12 month WP for £70 no need for medical etc as long as you have confirmed job offer you should be able to walk into NZ immigration at trafalgar sq and walk out with a permit.

Airasia… Gatwick-Kuala Lumpur-Christchurch.
If you want North Island take Jetstar or get one-way rental car.
Most people start in Auckland and work South so there’s loads of good deals.
I could have had one for $15 a day and they paid the ferry fare.
Loads of family run firms where you can rent a motor.

Unfortunately air Asia is cancelling the route from gatwick to KL

Really bad cos it was the cheapest way to Asia by far and no stopover either

All because of the eu carbon tax I think

That’s a shame, they did some good deals… Wasn’t the most comfortable journey but couldn’t complain at the price.
I’d imagine they’ll have to stop the Paris route too if it’s an EU wide tax… :imp:

Hi does anyone know a good site that would give you a list of haulage firms that I could phone have tried a google search for road haulage new Zealand and not much comes up cheers in advance andy c

yellow pages nz.

Just got back from a 5 week holiday in NZ, we stayed with the inlaws and I still want to move out. :unamused:
My wife wants to move out but also stay here because of her Gran, so we will see.

I’d say here’s heaps of truckin work around, it’s just the matter who’s willing to give you a job offer and wait for the immigration process since it might take awhile. And I’d say pretty much all of the companies would like to see you first in person and do an assessment before they’d be willing to give a job offer.

Personally, I did a leap of faith comin to NZ from OZ just as a tourist but managed to get interview/assessment and thru there a job offer. From the date that I came to country and actually got my work permit granted, it took me 6,5wks. Althou, reckon I got things speed up a bit since sent an extra letter for immigration and kept harassing them on the phone about my application…

Nevertheless, got my visa and startin my work possibly this weekend, couldn’t be happier, time to start makin money again.

Are you working out of Hornby, Chch??

So, if i wanted to move out for work, am i realistically looking at having to take an exploratory trip first to get a job offer sorted?

I am seriously considering emigrating somewhere, either NZ or Canada because i am sick of trying to make my way n this country. There is little reward for being an honest hardworking guy here, companies just seem to want to screw you at every turn.

Well, I personally had established a contact with my current company when I was still in OZ but I still had be in NZ for things to start rollin’ but yeah, I’d say come over, althou might be good to send first some e-mails and see who responses to 'em. I got responses only from two companies and it shouldn’t be cause of the experience, maybe just the hassle with the visa. Or, maybe I just didn’t contact the ‘right’ ones. Well, I did, but u know…

If thinking about North America, harvesting might be a really good choice, nearly ended up goin there myself, had a promising contact in there as well. Althou, reckon harvesting season has already started, at least with most of the companies.

Forget Canada then. You get paid by the mile and you will be getting screwed over more than you ever thought imaginable. I’ve now been in Canada over three years and did 10 weeks driving in England over the winter and to be honest, I loved being back home, getting paid by the day, getting paid for nights out in the truck rather than sitting hundreds or thousands of miles away from home in some American or Canadian hellhole for days on end for no money at all. Try NZ if you get the chance, by all accounts it seems to be a much fairer place to drive a truck, at least you get paid for the time you put in at work. Good luck!

Tanker Driver:
This may help a few of you out there trying to get into New Zealand. Firstly I recommend viewing the following sites seek.co.nz Trade Me is the equivalent to Ebay back home, you will be able to compare house rental prices, cars, jobs (Especially the Wages Offered) and Seek is the national job site down here in NZ. I came out here in October 2006, I become a Full NZ Resident on December 3rd 2009, I am then free to work and live wherever I wish, no questions asked! The job situation as picked up a little in the past few weeks, new companies have taken over new contracts, and are already looking to expand. It is very easy to transfer your Class 1 licence over here in NZ…Simple questionnare is all you have to do (Multiple Answers), no driving test is needed and you can generally get your foot in at any driving job out there…ie: Petrol Tanker Driving, Chemicals and Specialist Gases
Have a look at the following companies and enquire
â– â– â– â– â– â–  Pacific (Caltex/Shell Nationwide)
Kaurilands (Mobil)
Linfox (New Zealand)
Hope this may be of help to those that are planning a new life ‘down under’…if anybody is on facebook, join the Trucking ‘New Zealand Forum’, you will get to see the different types of vehicles on our roads and also meet the other brits that are on the site, that have posted numerous pics of themselves 10-4 TD!
