Well I passed my C+E last year and landed my first perminent job after 8 weeks. Problem I’ve had was I was only doing artic as cover so have spent the last 5 weeks on rigid. Its not what I passed my test for.
So, the other weekend I spent several hours writing my CV and then went on Yell.com and looked for local haulage companies. A few hours later I’ve a stack of 35 letters, each containing a copy of my new CV and a covering letter. These were posted on the Monday morning and my fingers were firmly crossed.
Tuesday lunch and I’ve just parked up for my break when my phone rings. Its one of the companies I’ve sent a CV to. They have a job opening in April and they are keeping my details on file and will be in touch closer to the time. Not bad I’m thinking. It’s a start. However, about two hours later I noticed a missed call on the phone so I call them back. It’s another of the companies I’ve contacted. Two days later I’m in for an interview and last Saturday I went for an assessment drive. “I’ll be in touch on Monday.” I’m told. Well, I got the call At half three this afternoon and I have got a start next Monday. Full time artic. Happy days.
In addition to the two companies that I’ve mentioned, I’ve had another company call but they wanted experiance. Then tonight, I’ve just got home and the phone goes again. Yet another company wants me to go for an interview. I told him I’d got a start on Monday and I’d give him a call if it didnt work out.
I guess if you want something you really have to get off your ■■■■ and take it. It cost me about £20 to send out the 35 letters and I’ve got a job, another 2 companies interested and 2 more that are keeping my details on file.
All you guys and girls that are looking for work, keep plugging away and it will happen if you try hard enough.
Gloria.
