Theory test

Hi all

Firstly thanks for having me here, the information I’ve found on here so far has been second to none as a wannabe driver.

I’ve been speaking with a local training centre who I’m going to use and I have my medical booked in for a weeks time, once that’s done and I have my provisional I will be booking my theory.

So, to see where I stand I did a mock theory test and got 77/100, 8 answers off passing.

Reviewing the answers I’m passing all the general driving knowledge and highway code etc, and failing once it comes to HGV specific questions.

Does anyone know where best to get study material for the HGV theory? The training school have said once I have the theory booked they will give me access to their online revision material but I’d prefer to get a head start and book the theory test knowing I already have the knowledge to pass.

Thank you

Thank you, I’ve been reading through that but must have missed the links for theory info! Appreciate it.

Hi
I passed my CPC case study theory test on Monday and my multiple question and hazard perception back in December .
I really focused on it and studied hard for it , in the end i passed my multiple question with 4 wrong answers out of 100 and CPC case study 5 wrong answers out of 50 .
I used my school’s ( Wallace ) training app which was great and also studied the Highway Code book as well which my school gave it to me .
I did a lot of mock tests , so many of them and practiced hazard perceptions a lot too , it’s a bit silly with hazard perception because a lot of times you see the hazard and click on the right hazard but end up getting no points or not enough points because of the timing of your click so make sure you practice that a lot as well .
we don’t know if there is another lockdown waiting for us or not so it’s better to study properly and pass first time .

I’ll definitely be carrying on with the mock tests and spending some time reviewing the answers after, I must admit when it came to questions about tacho etc I was guessing and going back to find out the answer. The hazard perception tests I’ve always managed to pass with pretty high marks on both my car and bike test, maybe something to do with being a biker and my dad teaching me from a young age of how to look for hazards as a biker. Hopefully that experience will be a benefit when it comes to it!

Probably not, anyone with experience and good perception will probably click too early (oh the irony). But there are techniques to overcome that, see how you get on with mock tests. Usually means click when you see the hazard, wait a sec/half a sec, then click again.

As exit wrote for the hazard perception I adopted the click , wait click method and seemed to work well.
I bought a theory book and cd and just practiced like mad.
Currently studying for my cpc mod 2 tomorrow !

Yea that seems to be the best method to ensure I don’t click too early, good luck with your CPC test!

Thanks MarzZ95

I passed my CPC Case Study, Hazard Perception and Theory mid last year before the lockdowns, I found a few Apps on my iPad which helped as it let you know the areas you where failing and allowed you to revise more. I say revise it was more of repetition drills the answers into you but then you start to understand. Hopefully going to do my practicals next week (Provideing another lockdown doesn’t get imposed)

Yea that’s what I’ve been doing so far, just repeatedly practicing the mock tests. It seems to have worked as I’m passing most now so will soon book the test, once I’ve done my medical and got my provisional.

Good luck with your practicals!

Good Work, the theory is just repetition repetition repetition and suddenly it just clicks soon as you see the question it just sinks in you get the understanding and you pass, least that was from my experience doing it. Practicals went well and passed have my first job starting tomorrow, company willing to give me a chance to get some of that valuable experience.

Good luck with your theory remember you will probably finish the questions way before your time is up, use that time to go over your answers from the start as it never hurts to double check.

Thank you yes definitely just needed a bit of repetition, I’m passing now every time and feel much more confident with it. I think after the first practice test it was suddenly very daunting being way off the mark!

Glad to hear you passed and managed to get that first job quick too that’s amazing to hear, gives me confidence too that there are companies out there willing to give the new guys a chance!

Hope everything goes well.
