Did I just get a free medical?

So my 5 year medical was due this month.

I booked it at my doctors just up the road from me.

The cost was I was told on the phone when I booked the appointment was £95 plus £30 for the eye test.

So I went ahead with the medical the other day. The eye test was just me putting one hand over each eye - £30!!!

Anyway the doctor filled the form and I got it stamped at reception.

I walked out and got home before I realised that they had not mentioned payment.

Do you think I should call them to arrange payment? Will they send me an invoice? Do doctors have card payment facilities anyway? I have never seen anyone make payment there before. Do you normally pay at the doctors?

I have the form here ready to send with my driving licence.

Why would you pay more than £60 for a full D4 medical
You have been ripped off if you pay over that :exclamation:

I am one for using my own doctor, they have access to your medical records, Sid in the shed hasnt. DVLA will hopefully refuse these D4 reports from the man in a van.

As for the OP. I would say you may have got a free medical. :stuck_out_tongue:

If they ring you chasing payment, tell them you did have an appointment about that cheesy aroma and it has cleared up now!

I would immediately return to the doctor to pay. Call me old fashioned, but imo that’s honest.

The amount charged is irrelevant; you agreed to pay so you should.

Well aware I’m likely in a tiny minority, but these are the ethics by which I live and always ran the school.

Get on your bike and pay.

Pete

Can anyone recommend a good sat Nav please.Much appreciated.

Probably unlikely they would have a card machine to pay. Might be a time to dig the chequebook out, that way you can prove you paid and also know that the money is going through the GP practice account.

I personally don’t see how the amounts GPs charge can be justified. My experience was that I was advised the fee depended on what was involved, only for this to change to £110 flat fee (cash) when the medical had been completed. After initially saying they could keep the form, a £50 fee was agreed for the 10-15 minutes work (if that). I did pay in cash on that occasion, but asked for a receipt.

However, if a fee is agreed and the work carried out, I would pay at the desk voluntarily in all cases.
