SAT NAV or App

Evening all!

I’ve recently passed my CE test and got a job. I’m looking for a good satnav and I came across the Co-Pilot GPS app on IPhone.

Has anyone used the app? I searched the forum and there was a few posts about it from last year and beyond so apologies if there’s another recent one!

So yeah has anyone used the app? There’s a 14 day trial then an option to buy it either monthly or yearly.

Rather then the £400 satnav would this app be any good? Has all the truck input details height weight etc.

Any help would be brilliant!

Thank you
Tommy

Personally I use a tom tom truck sat nav as well as Google maps streetview. Is £ 400 really that much if it makes your job easier considering it should last several years.

Cheers for the reply pal.

Yeah I agree, don’t mind paying it if there’s no other alternative

Cheap and cheerful 30-40 quid ones on ebay are just as good. Loads of us using them.

The 2019 AA road map is 2 bucks. Then i use phone to pinpoint the company.

■■■■ nav is annoying.

Call Tom Tom ask for a discount on a truck nav ,Blag you lost your car satnav etc ,I got my 6250 for £292 and a case delivered ,Lifetime updates .Honestly it is better than using an app on your phone .

One of my friends, she’s on here too and will probably chip in , swears by CO Pilot. Recommends it highly.
I tried it, but I had to use it on my phone. Not big enough for my old eyes.
But, if you do intend to use it full-time, I would get a cheapie tablet, 8-10 inch, and put it on that.

I use copilot on my phone but mainy Google maps.
Better then spending 300 on a sat nav.

Don’t forget a sat nav is often just a old phone with proprietary software on it all wrapped up in a fancy case.
There is nothing special about a TomTom or Garmin.

When I was newly passed I was asking myself the same question. Used two trails of co-pilot (different email addresses) before deciding nothing can match Google maps and street view for pin pointing a business down a back street! With however million android devices out there all reporting back to Google the live traffic notifications are second to none to!

It’s just up to you to keep your eyes open for HGV restrictions!

I must admit i use Google earth sometimes ,It is brilliant for close ups of entrances & exits etc .

Some of the chinese ones are PDAs which have stolen Tomtom software on them and from all the ones I’ve tried, dont work or die in 6 months.

Tomtom and Garmins are specically designed for one job with much better GPS receivers, batteries etc. Yeah you’re paying for a name too but have had numerous sat navs over the years and wont touch anything beyond a proper Tomtom anymore.

As for copilot - not tried it but it doesn’t do traffic which is a big downside. I do find however the phone cant pickup GPS as well as the sat nav especially if you’ve got a windscreen that blocks signals or in big cities where buildings block it in the vehicle.

Ultimately, I’ll always pay for the specialist tool as it rarely lets me down.

Exactly this, for me it has proved to be a relatively small investment.

I have a tomtom6250, and it is not foolproof i input the correct measurements and it still takes me down low bridges it does this rarely but it happens. Also it will sometimes take me down some narrow b roads, which has no restriction to my 44ton artic as in signs, but the better choice of road would be the a road.

All in all, i would buy a sat nav as i use my mobile for youtube podcasts etc

I bought Sygic Truck app for about £100 for three years and sometimes I’m using it on my phone, but mostly Google Maps and before journey I’m checking which roads it choosed for me, trying avoid some B roads, but honestly Google maps it’s enough if you’re using your brain (signs, low bridges, weights limit). That’s my opinion  and money in your pocket

The is everyone,

I’m working nightshift so not really too fussed about the traffic updates atm…

Used google maps and copilot the other night, think I’ll stick with that… although the comment about B roads I learnt the hard way lol

Thanks again
