Gearboxes

Morning guys, what’s the best way to drive this type of gearbox ie.best gear to select to take off and so forth.sorry about the quality of photo.

Depends on the load either pull off from 3/4 then move up through the gears

Impossible to answer precisely. It will depend on the power of the engine, gear/diff ratios, weight of the load etc. I suggest trying 2nd. If it’s too low, try 3rd or 4th. Better to start off with something too low than burn the clutch out!

As Pete Smythe, so many factors including load power (size of engine and where the torque lies) and gradient, if it’s a slick gearshifter then (loaded) get the vehicle moving in a low gear and by trial and error see how far you can block shift, it might be better off getting it rolling in first or second when loaded, as said don’t slip the clutch…and clutch slipping/destruction is the main reason we now nearly all have second rate (but reliable and protect the transmission from idiots) semi automatics.

By the time you’ve done a few miles you will have the feel of it.

Thanks for the advice guys
