If I got sacked tomorrow I would now probably try agency. I’ve got some experience and I feel that’d mitigate some of the risk.

Tbh agency is okay. And I enjoy doing different stuff. I also enjoy working when I want. But me and you are in different positions. I have no kids or mortgage and have another source of income to pay my bills - and my partner earns more than I probably ever will.
If I were you and you are ever thinking of doing it though - get the class 1 ticket first. From speaking to the labs who do agency long term they like to get into a big firm and just hang around doing the same job on better money than the employed drivers.
