Hi guys wonder if you can help me I got my class 1 test Wednesday if all is good I want to do tramping apart from stobarts can you name any other companies that would take on a newbie for tramping ? Any help is much appreciated

Sorry forgot to add I’m in north west near bolton

Moran Heywood, maritime in manchester

Yearsley (Fridges) in Heywood (Headquarter)

Maritime require normally that you have the 2 years experience but worth a try.

Since you`re only commuting once a week, why not look further afield?

Vitafoam at Soudan Street,Middleton, Manchester.
High trailers with Mercedes fleet, when ring, ask for Duncan.
Or place an advert for free on the notice board at the cafe in Heywood truck stop.
I got four job offers, by placing a free advert in the truck magazines, employment wanted section .

Tramping is an adventure, but imho tramping ■■■■■. If you feel that it’s for you, go for it. Why are you ruling stobarts out? Just curious, but they take new starters and the works not too bad for tramping, if you were after day work I could fully understand why you would rule stobarts out, but I found them one of the better firms for tramping. Good luck with it!

You either love it at Eddys or hate it. It’s the same what people think about them.

Due to their TV programm and all the spotter sh… everyone thinks their the biggest UK Haulier but they’re not.

There’s also people slagging Downtowns, Maritime, Wincarton, DHL etc. etc. off.
Others love it at

Make your own opinion and apply with every companie who takes newbies on and give it a go.

Take all the expierience you can get and than look for something better if you want a change, but remember “The grass is not always greener on the other side” [emoji6]

Good luck with your job hunting.

It’s one of those things that suits some people. I’ve got two Manchester lads that work out of our Herts depot and have done for about 5 years. It’s certainly worth considering looking further afield.

Personally, I wouldn’t rule Stobarts out. I worked for Stobarts as well as other big corporate hauliers, and I found the job at Stobarts better than the others. A few do whinge and moan, but I as well as quite a lot of other Stobart drivers think it’s one of the better tramping jobs. They’ll take a new driver too, whereas some of the smaller family-owned firms will want a few years experience.

You’ll probably get a brand new Volvo or Scania, and the same truck every week. Stobarts have a very big network too, so you could quite easily see England, Wales and Scotland in your week. The work was always clean too. Yes, they will pile the work onto you. The driver trainer at the induction himself said that it’s assumed trampers would rather be driving and earning than parked-up. So they will try and max you out. But, you’re paid hourly, and believe me, there are a lot worse firms to tramp for than Stobarts.

How did Wednesday go? Did you get it?

Hi guys thought I posted on Wednesday then realised I didn’t lol yes I passed my class 1
Been checking few companies out but think I’m going to wait till stobarts give me interview and hopefully go with them

they give you what truck is available then you are stuck with that truck until it gets sent to another depot or replaced with a new truck
