You only have to pay what you are prepared to pay - if they say you pay and you do not want to then its up to them how they proceed from there
Agencies will try it on in many ways. Disclosures are normally job specific but if they want you to do it anyway then let them pay. If you roll over and cough up they will smell a soft touch.
Don’t be forking out for DBS / CRB checks, yes they last 5 years but they are not transferable between companies, the agency should ensure that the DBS / CRB checks are carried out and completed on their behalf, and any expenses incurred by yourself be returned.
DBS / CRB checks usually take 2 - 6 weeks to be returned
