=========================================================================================

I have recently become unemployed,( I get no jobseekers money as the missus works two days, but they do pay my stamp ) so began to look for work driving, only to find out about cpc ,digi cards etc are all needed these days, not the case when i last drove 7.5 (wreck) for the sawmill 10 years ago,( grandfather rights ) after 3 weeks no work/money I asked about help toward the cost of cpc at the jobcentre, and to my suprise i was offered a full package cat “c” intensive course, plus 35 hours cpc, whooo hoooo , felt like i won the lottery.

WEEK 11…
WEEK 12…
WEEK 13…
WEEK 14…
WEEK 15… December
I have been told my training should be complete by 5th of december.

At week 2 I asked if I could have my cpc soon so I could find work whilst I wait for driving test. Answer was no
At week 3the trainer phoned said I was only training for cpc , my job coach corrected him.
At week five I asked again if I could have cpc as I already have c1+e and have previously worked as a driver twice over the years, and would then be able to apply for work so I can pay bills and eat till training is finished , the trainer went nuts with me on the phone, shouting and screaming at me, and then informed me it was "his idea in the first place that I get cpc training as well my lgv " and the answer is no , I will get it after I have passed my driving test.

I dont feel like i have won the lottery anymore ( broke, depressed, and too frightened to ask any more questions )
It is not a driving school , merely a training centre I must attend so I can go to a driving school.
The question is I am wrong to think I could do cpc asap so I can find work this side of Christmas ?

We do a fair amount of Jobcentre training and those trainees are dealt with in exactly the same way as anyone else.

Not sure what you’ve got involved in with this.

You would definitely work with your C1 if you had your dcpc but that could cancel out your entitlement to the training on offer.

Take it up with your training advisor at the Jobcentre.

All the best, Pete

PS Capital letters mean you’re shouting. Which you may be, but please don’t keep it up!

Welcome to Trucknet-UK

I agree with Peter Smythe, if you did the DCPC then found work you would not and should not be entitled to the rest of the training as you would be working.

If you’re desperate to work ask at the job centre about just doing the Driver CPC course without the cat C.

By the way could you turn off the Caps on your keyboard please, as has been said writing in all caps is considered as shouting on the Internet, and it makes the post hard to read in my opinion

Thanks for the SIMPLE answer, as you say it may (or may not) cancel out my cat “C” training, i will just go with the flow, rather than fuel the fire, I am very desperate to work, as the wifes £113 is £5 over what the law says we need to live on, which is why i thought if i had CPC i could apply for 7.5 work, whilst also having 35 hours of knowledge under my belt, and some recent driving experience i feel i would be more prepared for “C” test, and also have a wage coming in to help out, well thats how i see it .
I will look for some other type of work till my training is complete (if i can bear to stay that long)
If the TRAINER had told me that like that, i would fully understand how it goes and accept that, but to be screamed down the phone by a guy half my age and twice my size, who after 3 weeks of being there realises i am in fact there for LGV & CPC.
I am still concerned that at week 3 he phones out of the blue to tell me he only has me down for CPC, but not LGV, to which i phoned my job coach to see if this is true or not,(the next day i get a medical appointment)
At week 5 when i again asked if CPC was possible sooner he tells me(shouting down the phone )it was his idea that i should have CPC as well (as well as as what?) and should be grateful to him for that, and also that some guy is having eyesight problems and may take 12 weeks, and another guy has not got his provisional back yet so it may take longer than normal to get my training done. basically i dont know what to believe when he speaks, because of the contradictions, and also the other BS he comes out with.
So guys when the jobcentre offers you some training try to find out exactly what you are getting into, and how long it could take.
This guy is a million miles away from his COMPANY MISSION STATEMENT.
Theory practice 99-100 % everytime
Hazzard practice 85- 95 % everytime
no one ever looks at scores i do, i am simply put in a classroom for 2 hours then leave.
I have worked in the old days (without tickets) as a driver /rigger/slinger/banksman/shotblaster/etc
Canary Wharfe/Stansted Airport/Princess Quay/ Bridge inspections all over the UK and many garden festivals.
operated the biggest cherry pickers/star shot / moonshot/all terrain, overhead cranes upto 150t, and i DO agree the tickets culture for safe working .
I have been reading Trucknet for a few month now and trust the answers given. great source of info Thanks.

To be honest I would check with a Jobcentre training advisor before starting any job.

Thinking about it I don’t know how it works these days but in days gone by you was limited to how many hours you could work and still remain on JSA, although you may not get any money I think you’ll find that the training is probably the same and could be affected if you start working too many hours per week.

Like I say I’m not sure about this, but it’s worth checking rather than risk losing the training altogether

Hi TROTSKY3,

In the way that you’ve asked the question, you could do 35hrs of periodic DCPC, which would make you legal to drive the 7.5t you mentioned.

However, it seems from your post that you’re getting some kind of funding for a driving licence upgrade… so there may be a variety of conditions attached to that funding.

Although it seems tough at the moment, the window of opportunity that you have at the moment might not last very long because the Jobcentres have been known chop and change their minds about what’s available and when.

The trainer guy phoned me about my medical appointment, told me to take a D1 form and D4 to the medical, i got D1 from post office and realised it was the wrong one as soon as i looked at it, and am so glad i read up on here for the correct info, so i had good time to apply to dvla for the D2 which arrived on the morning of my medical, and printed a D4 (although the doctor did have one)
I keep a detailed diary of every contact now, and am thinking about taking a voice recorder with me on my next training appointment incase there is more verbal abuse, or aggresive behavior from him. then i could use it if i have to put in any complaint, or as a defence in court when i show him its not the only training i have had, (15-3 amatuer) :open_mouth:
I am very grateful to recieve this training, but shocked at what i do get by this training group, and am sure the driving school will be worth the wait .
You are probably right about the amount of work i can do , if any , although i do have to look for and apply for jobs.
I have heard this place goes out of business early Dec , which is why my training must be finished by then.
Thanks again.

Sounds like you’re in a difficult situation because you can’t walk away. If you were funding this yourself you would be off like a shot.

I agree with you and think you should record conversations. Especially if you are being abused. Then at the right time, subhmit it all and have him dealt with and sacked (thats the alternative to doing him in obviously). Only after you pass and get out of there though.

Just put pressure on. And tell the job centre to put pressure on too. After all, they need to keep paying you while you can’t work so its in both your interests to speed this up.

Good luck. You’ll get there.

Nothing really to do with this but I was talking to a trainer last week and the jobcentre want him to train 55 new drivers because of the shortage.
