Muller wiseman

Hi peeps

Passed cat c 3/01/14. Sent off a speculative application to muller wiseman and have been invited to interview next week! Not sure if it be rigid or tanker but chuffed to get an interview anyone with any knowledge/tips ? Read some older posts that say that they also pay or class 1…lets not get too far ahead of myself!

I’ve been working for Wiseman for just over 2 and a half years and can say that I have very little bad to say about it. Once you get used to the early starts it’s plain sailing from there. I would reckon you will be doing rigid work as I believe their policy is you need a C + E to do tankers. If so that will mean doing store deliverys to various different customers from little corner shops to big supermarkets. I went through my C + E thanks to them too as they needed the driver and I think they prefer to train from within rather than employ someone new. I am just a rota driver so I cover days off and holidays mostly which does mean my start times are all over the place but if that doesn’t appeal to you then try and get your own run.

Good luck with the interview,

Gary

Many thanks for the heads up, sounds pretty decent from what ive read on older posts too.

Got the job! Buzzing! 10th feb start

Brilliant news for you - good luck with your new career.

Not all doom and gloom for newbies

John

Cheers john

When double manning to learn a route take notes of where the back doors are to the shops your going to. ALWAYS make sure you have the bar across the back to stop the cages from rolling around. I did it once as I was rushing and heard the whole lot moving (30 cages). Take things easy as you will sometimes have to reverse in to tight spots and I mean tight with inch either side.

They do class two tankers but where I was based they didn’t have them. Good luck, and bear with the early starts and I mean early starts as in 1am start etc. You will be in bed by 6 -7 pm even on your days off but you get looked after though and always will be legit. LEARN EVERYTHING THEY CHUCK AT YOU

Thanks for the advice, afternoon run so no early starts, 90% co-ops i wa told 14 drops in leicester

They will be the little ones in the side streets. Good luck, watch the parked cars etc.

Ah co-ops, never liked the look of them. We didn’t have to deal with them at Manchester, all Co-op store orders trunked to RDC :sunglasses: One Stops were bad enough.

My advice is not to spend loads of time hunting for a goods entrance/figuring out where to unload if you can just run in the shop and ask them. They won’t mind in the slightest. Some back doors won’t be obvious to find & no prizes for finding it yourself if it takes ages & loads of stress. Either that or look up the shops phone number on Google and phone them, which I did several times when trying to locate shopping centre loading bays.

At a lot of small shops you will find yourself unloading on a camber/slope so you don’t want to be messing about moving loads of empty trolleys out of the way on the back as they will roll around everywhere, if you find yourself unloading on nice level surface take advantage and get the cages for your next couple of small shops pulled to the front ready.

Good advice. Will get a look at all drops on first week so will make a note of all the difficulties i may encounter!

I second that. I used to get about 4 drops ready so when I pulled up I was gone within 5 minutes after chatting the birds up

Perks of the job!?

Congratulations on securing work so soon! I really hope it goes well for you.

Sound advice from others who have experienced the same/similar work.

I would add:

TAKE YOUR TIME (there are no prizes for being first back to the yard)
Before leaving a drop, take a couple of minutes to complete every piece of required paperwork etc and stack all the completed PODs etc neatly (i.e. don’t just lob them in a heap to sort out later). Also get all paperwork for the NEXT drop out and have a look through it to check for important/useful information before you start driving.

TAKE YOUR TIME

Don’t be a hero - ASK the shop staff how/where the regular drivers do the delivery - but DON’T be railroaded into doing something you regard as dodgy/illegal just “because that’s the way others do it” (I’m thinking specifically about Clearways, loading restrictions and zig-zag markings here - unloading on the latter can get you 3 points on your collector card - a.k.a. driving licence)

TAKE YOUR TIME

Oh - and one final thought - relax and TAKE YOUR TIME.

If your also late for a Tesco or a Sainsbury’s let the office know. Wisemens get fined loads for being late.

Not half as much as short delivering a Sainsbury’s & getting caught by one of their auditors! It was £80 a bottle last I heard, so one pack of 1 pinters missing = £2800. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Not sure if Northampton do Sainsbury’s (?), but I remember sitting for two hours once waiting for someone to bring me 20 bottles of missing milk before I could attempt delivery.
