Owner driver

Hi I’m thinking of going it alone and setting up my own business as an owner driver. I’ve a local company that have jobs going traction only for £525 a day for Derby to Felixstowe and back for 5 days a week. Is this a good rate? If not what should I be looking at asking for?

Its a lot of miles(some days you would not be able to get back i guess) and rate about average, good point is it is solid and you know exactly what you are doing. Important for me would be how long tipping/reload takes…

That rate equates to near enough £1.50 per mile. On traction only, it’s about as good as you’ll get, especially as a new start. You won’t get rich but if you can get enough miles done in a week you will survive till you find something better.
Give it a go. As the guy used to say , in the advert for the Northern Ireland tourist board. “You’ll never know until you go”

What weight, type of load , tipping easy or waiting , fixed times ?
Can you run a 4x2 unit ? Leased or owned what happens if work runs short, Payment terms , trailer hire costs ? And if it’s their trailer and a tyre goes ?
It’s not great money and you will need to factor serious tyre wear and servicing as it’s a tedious trek every day !
And could you find some night work for the unit with another driver to make a better percentage Return?

Lots to think of .
