A chap keeps his lorry at our place, it’s a 11 year old unit taxed as private HGV and only used a few times a year to move a steam engine. He always runs with his driver card in which is regularly downloaded as he drives for others commercially. Could anyone tell me if there is a requirement to download the vehicle unit, and how often?
Downloading head unit is an undertaking of operator licence, if he’s exempt from o licence as its private then there’s no necessity for him to do it

whilst there is no need to do it, I run my truck just to move my old lorry but follow the rules as if operated commercially then if stopped at the roadside just hand over all the records, tachos, daily walk rounds, vehicle inspections, brake test, mot, and depart with a smile and cheery wave. no bother
