VANS

looking to add large vans onto my fleet and was wondering if anyone had an idea for rates on van work.

65ppm backload rate.

75 - 85ppm depending on the customer for proper loads.

I was going to say hopefully not less then £1pm.

Guess it depends on the type of work.

I knows theres some on here getting double what nsmith charges.

Bit over a pound, all miles.

And on average if it was mileage based, how many miles do vans do in a week.

Pffft, how longs a piece of string.

It depends what your into, who your customers are and what there paying.

Uk only iv never done, its always been into europe and return.

Barcelonas a 15hr drive time from the midlands.

General van work is hard going i believe, plenty of people running around for nothing, with no insurance, moody diesel, overloaded etc etc

Nail on head jim. If you can get good work, fair enough, but you really have to specialise a lot or get very very lucky.

When I started out we were doing around 100,000+ a year, now it’s probably about 50,000.

£1.00 per loaded mile

Some trips I’ve done have been Naples 15 yrs ago £3500 ,Greece towards Istanbul end £5000 ,they are the rates I look for ,not seen many EE’s doing what I offer yet …

One more thing I don’t deal with pence per mile customers ,the price for the job is set by me end of .

Well foreign is something else Dan, it’s mileage + ferry + tolls + hotels to us. I have my own ppm that I work to.

Oddly I’ve literally just priced a Rome and I can say that you and I must be working on the same figures as my charge was a couple of hundred less than your Naples.

We’ve done 11000 miles in 2 months in one of ours.

Also on rates. I’m stuck as a rate taker rather than a maker at the moment. If I could I’d be taking a pound a mile at least.

You’ll get there Nick, and then you’ll get your pound, all miles of course.

From our yard in Keighley, collect 13 bags of confidential shredding, dispose of in Workington,
Collection in Sellafield for disposal back at the yard in Keighley, transport only, no disposal included, was £785.00 for the day, company made money on the disposal rates as well! If they don’t want to pay the rates then I’m not wearing the vehicles out for nothing!
By the way the motor is 2 years old in November and has done 100,000 miles so it ain’t been sitting in the yard much!
As an aside the vehicle is a 3.5 Vauxhall Movano box van, not my first choice but it has been a good motor and is more comfortable than a Sprinter IMO, BUT i do not think it would take the abuse a Sprinter could that is why it has had the same driver on it since new, Pete

Specialise is the key, to many setting up in a standard van moving boxes, anyone can do it, that’s why the rates are below the floor.
Finding the that niche market is vital.

There are people on here running artics for not much more than a £1 per ile

Dont deal with transport companies , Courier companies :smiling_imp:  or mums spare bedroom freight fawarders get your own direct commercial /corporate customers on the vans and get the best prices you can . Dont get into the same old rut as everybody else trying to do the customer a favor look after you and you might be alright

I saw the downfall of transport as we know it yesterday. A van driver with a knackered tyre (runflat) he had rung his company waiting for advice. I said there is a tyre house hundred yards away or change the wheel as that rims knackered. Can’t change our own wheels, not trained.

Should you really be giving advice with your shocking payment record ?

Gosh, yes, Jeremy Hawke. There’s a blast from the past!
