New 26t rigid - lease / contract hire

Hey - new here as of today - have been googling and all the answers so far have been on this forum - so i thought it would be ideal to join the group!

Apologies if this is in the wrong place - it seem the best for my first question…

We are just getting an Operators License (restricted) as it’s simply for our own kit -and looking at leasing a rigid curtain 26t - ideally new or nearly new. Do the guys with all the experience on here have some pointers on the best firms to approach to get the best deals from? Dealers / Brokers etc? Open to manufacturers etc - just looking for the best deal to get us going

It’s only for UK work - mostly less than 3 hour journeys… so nothing too plush required! Overall annual mileage will only be around 30kpa - so nothing compared to most of you guys!

Thanks for any assistance you might be able to offer to this newbie!

My advice is to do anything but lease! Lease is debt - plain and simple. Far better to buy a modest vehicle, let it earn, and then re-invest. Otherwise, from day one, you’ll be chasing your tail to pay the lease payment. There’s only one winner with lease and that aint you. It’s the finance company.

Good luck, Pete

Contract hire, if it’s for 3 years, all the costs are known, only the fuel goes up, or buy s/h run for 3-5years, and put the difference between lease away then buy shiny new if it works,if you own it out-right and work isn’t paying then you can sell it

Any manufacturers dealer will be able to get you one, DAF and Mercedes both do a prebuilt product which may be available quickly from stock or Salford Van Hire or Dawson rental will both do a longterm contract hire, but you would have the option on taking one for a shorter period to ■■■■-it and see if that would make you more comfortable. Make sure whoever you speak to understands your mileage as this will make a considerable difference to the cost. There maybe some other smaller companies to suggest but not knowing where you are based can’t really suggest any.

As an own account operator presumably in events contract hire is a perfectly sensible option it gets you what you need at a known cost, fully tax deductible and since it is not a commitment rather than a debt, despite what others may tell you, it leaves your businesses credit channels available for running and growing your business rather than being ■■■■■■■ in a truck. But then you probably knew that bit anyway.
