Sub 3.5t breakdown cover

Hi guys,

I’ve just brought a couple of panel vans to join artic #2 in the fleet expansion for this week! Eek!

A quick question, who do you guys use for recovery and breakdown below 3.5t? Looking around and from what I can see only the RAC will do a breakdown package for a van used for hire and reward but there has to be other options out there.

We have a scaffold bar with D link welded in one end and a 50 mm cup on the other ,also some long 4 mm cables with crocodile clips on and a on tow sign with bungees on ,the nearest other pick up to base comes out and tows the other to the delivery point and then back home ,the cables keep the battery up on the dead one so as to keep the lights working ect .

And for longer trips?

Used the RAC for years, do what they say on the tin, Euro option as well.

Can I be nosy and ask what you are doing with the vans, parcels, urgent, specialist. Just being nosy!

AA for UK, ADAC for EU.

Im waiting for the first post from Mr Smith about the best way to recruit a secretary to take care of the admin for him. I believe some modern ladies are capable of such things, even in the complex world of trucking, so he should find some employee at less than a full mans rate.

I’ve heard the same things franglais, though I find trucking a little over my head otherwise I’d volunteer my services.

In real life nsmith and I both know our approach is the polar opposite of each other. I suspect one of us would kill the other if we had to work together

I’ve got two clients that kept mentioning they have van work available so I seriously considered it and thought, heck, if worst comes to it and its all wrong, I can always sell the vans! Some of it will be shop fitting, some will be light machinary, even put in a couple of bids on motorcycles to Scotland this morning. The vans are the first hit and hope I have done, I think I’ve got my numbers in a row but its complete speculation at this point.

They are insured for all work so if worst comes to worst they can always go on Amazon prime now or something.

nsmith, someone’s taken over your account…‘complete speculation’ :grimacing:

Seriously I hope it works out, if you can get work from an existing customer, that sounds a good base. I like a mixed fleet, feels more flexible

If worst comes to it, keeping a van around is worth it because it gives me access to a fleet insurance policy with ‘free’ any driver over 25 cover. Really, unless I wanted to stay stuck at one and just getting by though, I needed to do it. I’ve got to come off the road, I’m making stupid mistakes because I’m shattered and getting little bits of damage. So with two artics and two vans, I’m now off the road except for covering holidays and retired to the office to plan the vehicles and plot world ■■■■■■■■■■.

I’ll give it 5 years till you’re knocking on my door to buy me out!

Stop Flirting Both of you!
But in reality a van always finds some work , especially if you have a retired old driver looking for the odd trip to feel needed.

I should of been told I was sold a car policy should had commercial one. .despite me saying I had a van they had my reg nn8mber etc
