RAC HGV Breakdown cover

can anyone recommend, or not, RAC HGV Breakdown cover

I’d try and stick with the manufacturers own call out, Scania Lifeline, Renault 24, DAFAID, whatever you run. Having said that, I’ve used RAC commercial and not had any problems, ring them, someone comes out. It’s expensive, but any call out is.

I thought lantern recovery run a pay on use scheme, and can use recovery and roadside repair agents wherever you are, I know they are the RHAs partner in recovery at the moment,

I spoke to them the other day and (all prices include VAT)

  • set up an account £52.80
  • Call out Mon-Fri 8am-6pm £17.50
    out of hours £38.50
  • recovery £102.00 per hour from the time they make it to you.

If anyone knows about the cheaper option for pay as you use please share.

That sounds pretty good TBH. Anything with some sort of fixed/capped known pricing scheme where HGV recovery is concerned is a good thing assuming they deliver reliably when needed. Otherwise you just get stung for whatever the monthly finance payment is for someone’s bling machine wrecker which spends most of its time warming a corner of their yard.

The recovery rate seems reasonable in the extreme, and if £17.50 and £38 are really the labour rates, they’ll be so stowed out with work that they won’t have time to go to breakdowns.
