Actros Brake Canisters

I have recently acquired a Mercedes Actros 2643 year 2000 prime mover with disc brakes. The brakes seem to be working fine but I noticed one canister on the right hand rear axle has a lot more thread protruding than the others. Can anyone advise why this might be?

That brake has been wound off for some reason, possibly at the time the air pipe was repaired. Do not use the vehicle on the road like that other than to take it to a workshop. Get someone competent to check that it is safe to wind the bolt back in again, the chamber may have damage which is not visible in the picture. The spring inside that brake chamber is extremely powerful, it can kill you.

Get a wire brush and some oil on those threads or the roll pin will snap in the nut then it will need welding on .

Budget for a new chamber probably £300 plus but I would do the pair ideally as it looks like they’re the originals. I would suspect the parking brake side of the chamber is stuffed.
