DAF Electrics

Anyone with a 105xf had a problem with fog lights coming on with sidelights only, I’ve had to remove the bulbs,
I can’t find a fuse for them, might it be a relay? I’m loath to take it to Harris DAF, as I think they are ripoff merchants, if I could replace the faulty part I’d do it myself, its a64 plate

Silly question have you left the fogs switched on with the dash switch?

just behind the light is the plug for them, just disconnect the plug

Change the relay.

No, not got them switched on, what relay is it, do you know?
Sapper

Ign on lights on and start pulling relays from the bottom two row Iirc, when lights go out swap with another relay and see whats what, if the relay clicks as you fit it the relay itself is most likely fine and its being told to switch on from somewhere.
Has anyone been in the dash recently and fitted wrong plug to wrong switch?

No, no ones been near it, I’ll try swapping the relays, if that doesn’t work, it will be into Daf this week, oh ■■■■■■■ joy, three hours or so in that twilight world called Harris, ■■■■■■■ robbin ■■■■■■■■■

If you are intending to book it in somewhere and not happy with Harris at Grays then try taking a trip over the river to South Eastern Auto Electrical Services at Manford Ind est Manor rd Erith. 01322 342277

Well, an update on things, I posted a short while ago, regarding a crunching gearbox, as well as the lights problem here.
Went into harris for service and I defected said light problem and asked about the gearbox problem, went on two weeks holiday, got back Friday there and asked where the vehicle was, “I’ll get it picked up from Harris this afternoon” call me back, ■■■■, gearbox is out, lying on the deck in bits, unit still up on ramp, no one though to say what was going on, it’s been like that for 10 f**^+ng days, so now I’m out in a shi77y hire, while DAF are dodging the warranty with my gaffer,
Waste of f-#*÷g oxygen these barstewards.

I know it is a bit late sapper …But what was the crunching was it manual or auto ■■?12 or 16 speed ■■? I guess you are ex R.E but are missing the .M.E

Sorry for the ĺate reply, yes, manual 12 speed, crunching into 2nd and 5th, turns out synchromesh, goosed, but they sent it away to be rebuilt in Coventry, I think, main dealers don’t do that type of mechaniking now, seems they are only fitters that change parts instead of repairing.

Some dealers for some reason wont touch boxes …I love them ,not that difficult ,easier than an engine to be honest ,As long as there are no oil leaks and it selects gears ok job done …engine ,oil leaks water leaks, fuel leaks miss fires ,oil fuel pressure the list of things that can go wrong on a rebuild are endless …Synchros are ■■■■ easy…I despair at times …May be I’m old school lol

Problem is with any type of rebuild is to be proficient you need to be doing a particular one regularly. Since the proliferation of autos the average dealer will see a lot less gearbox woes.

A purely gearbox rebuilding specialist will have a test rig most likely also.

Good point …to be honest you don’t need a rig ,though it would be useful in diagnosing since they usually just get the box …I have been doing them in a dealers ,there isn’t for 20 years ,as long s you know what you are looking at wear wise there isn’t a problem …Our local ZF agent has the test rig ,but has to send ALL GEARBOXES MANUAL and AUTO to Manchester !!!..They do the double decker bus axles again sent to Manchester ,but they are allowed to do the autos in the buses …Your are correct with the autos ,in my experience with as tronic .the main box is bullet proof ,they range has failed ,but mainly it is the electronics that fail…Gearboxes are easier than engines …People are just scared of them ,which is strange when they happily pull engines apart
