Iveco Stralis heavy power steering

Hi All,

we have a 2008 iveco stralis 500 and the power steering has gone heavy but not all of the time, so far have sprayed up uj from steering wheel to steering box and changed the filter but driver says its lighter when fully loaded. Any help appreciated

Take it there’s a steered midlift so check nothing’s fouling the midlift steering assembly when the midlift is up if it seems to be ok loaded.

Jack the front axle and check kingpins and draglink and trackrod ends.
Check if when empty nothing is fouling, look for rub marks.
If it is consistent heavy, take the draglink of the steering box and check if you can spin you steering wheel easy without heavy points.

is it a hydraulically steered twin steer ? if so is the rose joint OK on the ram ( near steering box)

You get the same problem on the EuroCargo 18 tonners too. I’d look into common components between the two and see if that has an issue. From the EuroCargo I’d suspect the power steering pump but if they are not shared parts, I don’t know.
