Thinking of starting up

Wharty - Just a couple of things.

Firstly, you’ll need a lot more than a spare £10,000 in the bank. That will be gone in a week!

Second, as you’re only just going for a class 1, your insurance premium will be very high. No claims discount will not apply in your case, and you won’t be able to get an introductory discouunt because of your lack of experience in a HGV.

My personal advice - forget it for a while, or buy a small one.

probably good advice, you will get hammered with vehicle/trailer and g.i.t insurance but don’t think that owner driving is all about taking a mega cab to the other side of the world, theres plenty of opportunaties with rigids when you really look into it, things like mixers, tippers, plant wagons, hiabs etc can all pay good money if you drop on the right work and the initial costs are relatively low compared to unit and trailer. all i’d say, as many have before, look right into it, find work that looks good and buy the right wagon for the job.
good luck
paul.
