Well it may not be all that bad

IRHA warns on LRUC charges

The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has warned industry that hauliers won’t be able to carry the burden of Lorry Road User Charging (LRUC), when it is introduced in the UK in 2007

Last week the employers’ group IBEC warned that the scheme would cost business in the Republic up to E60 million annually.
 The LRUC scheme, which is due to come on stream in 2007, will be cost neutral to British hauliers, who will beneift from excise duty rebates on fuel, but will be extremely costly for foreign haulage operators.
Meanwhile, the IRHA is admanant that hauliers won’t carry the can, when the charge is introduced in 18 months time.
“The only option open to hauliers will be to pass the charge on to the customer. Margins on the UK and continental work are already pretty thin and there is no way hauliers will be able to abosrb these costs,” a spokesman commented.
