This is Polish Star LN-38, AKA Star 27, specially constructed by separate bodywork company on the chasis of Star 25 to carry furniture… It’s from early 60s and not many were done… It was thought that none of them survived until one day someone spotted unusual shed in someones garden… The purchase was soon finalised.
(notice the recovery truck, this is something very original as well!)
I did not believed that this can be saved…
And see how it looks today:
Respect to these guys who fought to save this one, as it’s propably the only one survived in the world!
A bit of background:
This is a regular Star 25. The Furniture transport was demanding and there was no truck that would meet the needs of the industry - standart Star 25 was too short, so had low capacity, and the articulated version had trouble entering some factories, that were located in old buildings. Therefore they decided to construct the purpose build one - it’s basicly a semi trailer set on lenghtened Star 25 chasis, and it’s front part is made into the drivers cab - hence no original cab can be visible. The porters were travelling above the driver - typical thing in UK removal lorries, but very unusual in Poland.
Quality workmanship and attention to detail. By the looks of the extra pictures very fortunate to find it so nearly complete. This would be a candidate for overall winner on HCVS London to Brighton surely?

I don’t know the rules for this rally, but there is discussion as for if the restoration was perfectly within the rules.
The truck was build on the basis of Star 25 which had a petrol engine, but there was a sister truck called Star 27 with diesel one.
Despite that this furniture carrier displays Star 27 badge, it was fitted with petrol engine from Star 25. The engine could not be saved, so they decide to swap it for the diesel one from Star 27.
Nobody knows if that was original engine, that was leter swapped for a petrol one for some reason, or if the petrol engine was in this vehicle from its beginning…
