Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .Keep the photographs and information flowing Mr Dunbar on what must rate as one of this country's real !!!!! hauliers , is the purchase of Volvo's a good move for Adam's ????.
Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .
That last Volvo they had before these two new Units was in 1976 a P reg, All I can say is that James Adams is a good judge of motors, Perhaps he is just trying and comparing them, Regards Larry.
Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .This was the last 8 wheeler to be in the Adams Fleet, The 6 wheelers running at 24 TGW Replaced them in 1964 B reg,s Regards Larry.
Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .
Now then Larry can we do some date reckoning here as IIRC the AEC Marshal 6 wheeler was only rated at 22ton GVW in the late 60's early 70's, I will own up to not recalling as to when 6 wheelers went to 24 ton GVW but it sure wasn't in 1964 ! Howay noo! lets have the answer ? Hope you have had a great day, we have, belting weather 'ower this side ! Cheers Dennis.
Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .
I stand corrected there Dennis, But running at 22 TGW They were carrying the same payload as the old 8 leggers & cheaper road tax of course, IIC The 24 TGW Came about when the Ergo cabbed ones came onto the scene, Ive had a good day cut the lawns & had a few drams, With my good Ladys approval of course, Regards Larry.
Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .
Well Larry the Ergos on the "E" reg 66/67 were still running at 22ton but as you say they could load 15 ton payload the same as an 8 wheeler. A firm near me in Milnthorpe K. Fell & Co. ran some out of Libby's, they were single drives and had the 505 engine. Didn't AEC's bring out a Mammoth Minor using the 505 engine at 24 ton GVW. Cheers Dennis.

Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .Hi Oily, Great shots of J R Adams wagons As you know my son Nigel drives for them, Keep them rolling please ,Regards Larry.
Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .
Hi Larry, your Son works for Adams so you have a degree of inside knowledge on the firm, & together with your own vast knowledge & experience, tell me something, what is J R Adams secret? Good professional Haulage Firms have gone & continue to go bust or get bought out by the big multi-national (boring/faceless) all white cab companies, but Adams continue to keep going, investing in new kit etc. We know that incredibly a 40' flat is now considered to be a specialist bit of kit, but is that how they do it, offering a solid professional service in the outsize/awkward loads that the Big mass fleets just can't be bothered with, or just haven't got the knowledge/expertise or quality of driver to do the job, so Adams can charge a top rate for it? Re: J&R Adams Newcastle .Well ADR, I have known the Adams family from the late 50s when I first started driving for Baxters Road Services on the Quayside in Newcastle, Young Jimmy Adams who is now old Jimmy like his late father Jimmy were hard grafters in those days, They are still a family run consern & have drivers who have been there for endless years, My son Nigel has been there 18 years since I retired, He just stays on local work, They had drivers worked for them for 40 years Plus,The young James & his brother John have just carried on in their grandfathers footsteps, The are a well organised haulage Co, IMO Give a service second to none, They run a good fleet of motors plus all good trailers geared up for any kind of load large or small, Plus they pay top money to thier drivers who are willing to work hard in these difficult times, When we ran our own wagons we used to get lots of work off them, Plus the money was right & paid on the dot, The good old days in my book, Of course Im an old man now at 82 years old but I would do it all again

Hi Lawrence, love that they stay with the traditional colours, do they still have the lettering done by a sign writer or have they gone down the vinyl lettering route on that? Regards Chris Skilled artisan's aren't cheap, but cheap artisan's aren't skilled!
