LHD Ford Transcontinentals

I might just as well finish off the LHD series and include the dear old Transcon. I drove Transcons and loved 'em, but never had LHD ones. Where possible, I’ll give details of drivelines. Robert

To date, this is the only example of a ■■■■■■■ 14 litre / 9-speed Fuller Transcon in LHD I can find. Perhaps someone knows of more examples. this is Rowley’s ex-Greek machine, now in preservation. Robert

Perhaps this had one too, but the rubric is ambivilent…

Billy King’s LHD Transcon had a big-cam ■■■■■■■ and a 13-speed box - oh, and a high roof! He did Morocco with it and I ran with him on many occasions. RIP, mate. Robert

Arguably one of the most famous UK Transcons was Chris Hooper’s LHD example. Our paths crossed on various occasions between here and the Gulf. His vehicle was heavily modified and again, he had added roof (I think from a Renault). It had a big ■■■■■■■ and 13-speed Fuller. Robert

These also had LHD and 13-speed Fullers. Robert

For those who can’t get enough of Chris Hooper’s machine, here is the Astran article that tells all. Robert

There were some more weird and wonderful variants of the LHD Transcon with high roofs and stretched chassis…

Another one to add to the collection Robert…

Don’t remember too much about the driveline on it, other than it had a ■■■■■■■ engine and Fuller box.
The cab featured the “Middle-East Kitchen Pack”
I was 16 when it joined the fleet, so I only got to drive it round the yard - hence never getting too far up the box.
I did a few trips in it with driver Barry Aspland, who took it over when it’s original driver - John Nightingale - left the company.

I see that in addition to the M/E Kitchen Pack, it also has roof-mounted air-conditioning. Cheers! Robert
