Asten truck stop

Taking rip off to a new limit, by fleecing every last euro out of the drivers that can afford to use the place.
Shower €2-50, even though you are paying a premium in the secure parking.
Beer €5 a glass.
Meals, cheapest on the menu €16-50, going up to €25.
Now if you let them scan your parking ticket when you order a meal then the company (not the driver) gets a 50% discount on the parking which is a Euro an hour.
So the driver by paying exorbitant prices for to be honest quite poor food IMO subsidises the company’s parking charges.

Little wonder the Eastern Europeans are in the lorry park but not in the restaurant, who can blame them.

Did you tell tham that? To be fair, when the EE rush started they never did use the restaurant which is why they introduced the parking fees in the first place. Asten was among the first to do so IIRC. Shame, it used to be an excellent truck-stop. Robert

The price rises are probably due to the lack of use of the restaurant but then why not implement the same system that is at Meer where if you use the restaurant your parking is free.

I can see where the argument is coming from:
The restaurant is charging parking to those who park, but don`t eat in the restaurant. They want to make some cash AND keep spaces for those who wish to eat.
Grumpy is (justifiably) upset as he sees meal prices rising due to less customers eating, but his boss gets charged less for the parking. Looks like he is subsidising the business!

Clearly the solution is fo…

`scuse me, phone call, bye…

You can hate EE drivers for this who they not buy from restaurants but it is another reason. Not because need pay money. In most Eastern Europian country people not prefer buy take away, not prefer baguettes, not prefer chicken@chips ,KFC,Mac and definetely not British breakfast.I never see anyone driver who they who him like Standart British breakfast(sorry for this). And may be when you go to some country that you don t like food there.EE driver much more prefer self whole cooking food, pasta, pork meat.

Where did I state that I “Hate” EE drivers? I was defending them.
English may not be your 1st language but don’t make accusations without substance.
Your point about British breakfast also has nothing to do with the point of this thread, I’m in Holland!
I’m not complaining about the type of food and drink I’m complaining about the scandalous prices!
Yesterday lunchtime a bowl of tomato soup with 1 roll was €5-50, the soup was nice but one of the smallest soup bowls I’ve come across.
Myself and a few others walked into town last night to drink and eat, half the price of the food that is served in the truck stop.

I don t talk about you and not hate you but to many drivers now moaning about EE drivers who they not go to restaurant and they lost big money, profit. But every people have own choice what he can eat or what he will avoid to eat.But services as well want profit and they can sale anything for any price .And main customers from buses and car will absolutely happy buy food for big price.Because they have day off, relax.May be next time some people drive by car via this services just next year.

As I’ve already stated I know English is obviously not your 1st language and I should make an allowance for that.
However, I have no idea WTF you are talking about or what point you are trying to make, not totally convinced you have either!

You really are talking ■■■■■■■■ this time, Grumpy Old Trucker isn’t talking about take away meals, like KFC or McDonalds, I would rather cook in the cab than to eat those, but I manage to eat food in truckstops across Europe, including pasta and pork.

And as for the English breakfast, he’s talking about proper restaurant food in the Netherlands, which I seem to remember serve several different national breakfasts.

And in truckstops in many parts of Europe you will get pasta and other dishes which no doubt are to the taste of the average EE driver, but even though they might be parked up there it’s unlikely you’ll see them buying a meal in the restaurant.

I’m also not having a go at EE drivers, they like us are just pawns in the global economic system, its the system that is working against us.
