Did well to get as far as he did

Another one for TruckNet csi

Report seems to be saying he over-ran the pin?

He got quite far for not hitching propley hat off to him

Investigating officer Pc Gary Winfield, said: “The examination showed that the driver had not secured the trailer correctly to the truck when he collected the load from Purfleet. He then drove on the M25 and A12 then on to a small local round where the trailer connection failed as he negotiated a bend.

Not a very good investigation. There’s absolutely no way that he could have got that far. There’s more to it than driver error surely.

Did well to get as far as he did

Seems like he was extremely lucky rather than did well.

i allways found in ten years of shunting if the fifth wheel pin safety catch would go on it was on right.or i was lucky

Sounda like he got slapped for a couple of other things but why the fixed penalty for using a vehicle in a dangerous condition after it says he secured it correctly?

Indeed a Vosa hat-trick, self funding working a treat in this instance.

The driver has been given fixed penalty fines of £60 for using a vehicle in a dangerous condition and £200 for failing to take sufficient breaks while driving between April 8 and 9.

He faces a further a £300 fine after being summoned to court for driving the vehicle with a total weight of 27 tons along a road with a 7.5 ton restriction.

It will be interesting to find out what happens with the weight limit fine. I’m pretty sure the public think we drive into 7.5tonne limits and round narrow country roads purely for giggles :unamused:

Just because the dog clip goes in it doesn’t mean the jaws are coupled correctly.

Sorry men I just need to hijack the thread a minute

maybe he was cheering himself up after dropping the trailer

Never in a million years did he over run the pin and get that far.

Yrs ago I lost a trl, thankfully while only going slow, only damage trl legs collapsed. At the time I was driving a unit were you had no safety clip you just coupled up put truck in forward gear give it a couple of sharp tugs and that was it.What had happened was I had picked up the trl[no air suspention]and the pin had been sat on top of the jaws of the 5th wheel.I managed to travel half a mile before it fell off.Lesson I learned that day, always go under the trl and check the jaws are locked.
regards dave.
