Free Onions on the A14

A14 this morning, got through before it was closed east and west bound at the Orwell Bridge.
Driver seemed ok, but maybe just a bit tearful.

I reckon he’s in for the chop.

90 minutes from felixstowe to the a12 exit :frowning: oh well…

thats what happens when you bhaji in

Add some baked beans to that lot and you’ll have tear gas

Got cry

That curtain looks like it has been peeled open.

Shame they aren’t spring onions, they would have bounced back in.

You never know…

Who was it? Thank god it aint one of ours, we have had enough bad luck recently.
I hate Jumbo bags, the sooner these things are dispensed with, the better for everybody.
If you load them fresh, they settle during transit, so you must pull both curtains and re-strap, but try finding somewhere to do this enroute! Especially when it is windy
Same for Carrots and Tates…

Eastbound previously it looked like most of the cargo was resting on the unbroken curtain so it looked at the time the bags had gone sideways and out onto the curtain, pulling it down, which then pulled the roof down.

It was right by the exit to the Shell garage before the bridge, so I would hazard a guess someone pulled out, and the driver changed lanes a tad sharp and discovered why straps might have helped…

I didn’t see any other vehicles involved and when I came back from Felixstowe about an hour later the queue was stretching back further and I got to see the other side of the trailer… And a lot of stuff. They had a low loader then with a JCB forklift with the extending arm, although the grip on the end had forks and not a bucket…

I would hazard that he would be prosecuted by the police and VOSA would get their oar in and use it to push that this is why you need to secure your load yada yada yada. Just look at the mayhem caused!!!

Since the trailer was dragged off the dock, as in a ferry trailer which no doubt was sealed, is the driver allowed to break the seal to check the security?
If not and has no way to check the security of the load, would the Johny Foriegner get done if he hadn’t secured it?

i arrived just after it happened, and it looked like he pulled out of the filling station.
the a14 should be a motorway ffs

I always thought it was the drivers responsibility for the load and vehicle, and with VOSAs clampdown on unsecured loads then this is a area for debate?

Excuse me…How and why are we assuming that they were not strapped?

thats all i do pull trailers of the docks nad im sorry but if any driver does not break a seal and check the load security, then on there head be it , at the end of the day the driver is responsble for the goods he is carrying

Nobody would move jumbo bags without strapping them, they are very unstable. They’re horrible to move as they settle in transit then the straps come loose or the bags tilt. Once they start to lean over you’re not going to right them without a forklift.

How much you say each bag weighs? Out of curiosity, my dad used to backload bags of carrots like that with pallets underneath, always weighed a tonne each one.

Haven’t pulled a tilt/EL for about 18 mths, iirc.

German ones are usually bob on, re load security.

Cloggie ones, 50/50, imho.

In any case i always open the back, and if needs be climb in and look for myself, ■■■■■■■■ to the seal. If it’s dodgy, it doesn’t move. Endex.

In the unique way a forum frequented by truckers operates, we are holding kangaroo court, and will be Judge and Jury and will process any sentencing before any facts/evidence can be posted which will find the accused not guilty.

its how we do things here.
