Fuel tanker strike

So the tanker drivers have voted yes for strike action. The panic buying has started near me the queue for the 2 stations by me was horrendous last night. Are the public daft or what?

I have a thought, if the tanker drivers do strike why don’t the public and hauliers use the opportunity to protest about the rising price of fuel. It might give the government food for thought.

What is the point panic buying now. The Union needs to give notice to the Companies first. One or two days before the strike is the time to fill your tank up because if you do it now, your tank may well be empty by the time the strike (if it happens) kicks in.

When you put a job out to contract a profit whoever small is made leading to a lack of quality and service for the end user in this case the drivers.
And anyone unfortunate be around when something goes wrong it’s a miracle that we have not seen a major incident.

That video is a nice bit of corporate sounding twaddle, I have to say.

Private companies profiteering in a capitalist economy, wow shocking.

My opinion (and it is just an opinion)…

ADR is simply a course you sit, takes a few days, much like a HGV licence. These boys aren’t a band apart.

It irritates me that they consider themselves part of the oil industry, and clearly nothing whatsoever to do with the road transport industry.

I get tired of hearing “the most dangerous profession”. Yes you carry inflammable goods, yes you could die if you plough into the back of someone or they plough into you, but then so could any of us driving on the roads. Any truck driving is technically dangerous, but the statistics can be made you look any way you want them, and the probability is frankly low.

Industry wide fairness for all drivers, not just petrol tankers. How many of us can boast having a decent company pension scheme, or even sick pay? How many of us get more than the minimum statutory holidays or pay increases each year in line with inflation?

It could be argued that we all deliver essentials in one form or another. Any economy based on rampant consumerism, like ours, all sorts of junk is essential. If people stop spending on crap they don’t need, the whole lot goes down the toilet. Capitalism is based on the principle of debt and spending.

Any product on a small island has to be delivered by road to be economically viable.

If this is truly about safety concerns, i’m a monkey.

Well if the strikes keep the hoyers tankers off the road then that’s a good thing, the hoyers ■■■■ who ran me off the M3 at Winchester last week needs to be kept off the public highway, absolute ■■■■■ the lot of 'em

Safety concerns, my ARSE

If they were so concerned with safety the muppet in the Shell Rigid on the A15 today wouldn’t have overtaken me on double whites and cut it so fine with oncoming traffic, all because I was doing a nice SAFE & legal 40!!!.

Maybe if the unions had a lot more power and in which every driver in the industry was a member and the law was changed to allow secondary action as it was before Thatcher’s policies zb’d the country’s economy up you would get all those things. That’s assuming the unions can forget all the socialist workers of the world unite bs which plays into the hands of the Tory cheap imports and immigrant labour scam.

Capitalist economies don’t come much more capitalist than the US economy of the 1960’s but it took a lot of union action against the worst aspects of the idea to make that economy what it was at that time. Then they put zb Nixon and Reagan into power.Just like the British put Thatcher in with (a lot) of help from idiots like Callaghan in the so called ‘Labour’ Party. :unamused:

However there’s no way that you’ll ever get those type of conditions by having a go at union members everytime they try to defend terms and conditions in whatever sector of unionised industry we have left here.

I think we should all sign the petition. According to that, if we don’t give them what they want there will be mass fatalities!!! Think of the children please!

More like Unite hasn’t got the bottle to face down the Sun and Daily Mail readers by saying it’s all about defending their terms and conditions and if the Sun and Mail readers don’t like it tough. So it’s trying to play the public sympathy card instead. :bulb: :unamused:

So the tanker drivers are going on strike over easter ,lets hope the weather is fine .I believe its h&s along with working conditions that have brought this to a head, so what exactly has the union being doing to get to this stage? Anyhow if we cant get fuel we cant work and I dont know what the diesel fairies are going to do cos if there isnt any in our tanks they can`t take it.

Been there, done that. seems the companies want to dismiss “standards” to save money and increase profits and the drivers want to increase their pay "due to it being a dangerous and highly qualified job"and they want to stay “elite”
sooo mobile crane drivers/hiab drivers/moffat drivers/long/wide/large load drivers/other tanker drivers/ any other drivers are reckoned to be below them in the pay structure.
As an ex petrol tanker driver trainer i think i can say that the job although isn’t easy it is very repetitive ,you do the same thing loading and delivering every time. Stick to the correct procedure and it’s fairly light work. Ok get it wrong and it’s a major error(as in dropping 5000 ltrs of derv into an unleaded tank on the forecourt)A rollover/crash etc is bad in anybodies books ,nobody wants it but it’s not the cargo to blame .it’s other incidents.
It’s a driving job ,no more no less, car transporters for one is a tad more complicated as is many other jobs. :unamused:
nuff said.

Why don’t they just sack them, which would immediately lead to a safety improvement on the roads as the majority drive like ■■■■■ these days, and give the jobs to people who want to work?

Fair point…Well made.

do toodington north MAKE UP THEIR OWN PRICE TODAY 154.9 70 QUID DEARER THAN 2 WEEKS AGO FOR DOUBLE TANKS
