hi all, been a class 1 driver for about a year and a half and loving it , been busy on the agencies, but would like to broaden my horizons, thinking of doing my ADR (does Diesel Dave still do the ADR courses i think in Leicester as I believe he’s the best one to go with?) and get my moffett training done. can anyone recommend a moffett/ADR training body near to me, i live in west bromwich, west midlands, although i don’t mind travelling. anybody got any ideas on cost and where to do it? Also what sort of pay does it give (moffett/class 1)? With 1 and half yrs experience on class 1 what chance do i have in getting an ADR job on the fuel tankers? I know getting any job is hard but would my experience be a negative? Does anyone know of any books/pc software/rom available to help with ADR? I have already completed my DCPC. Any info would be appreciated.
hello gogins,i live in west bromwich and i tried to renew my moffett licence a few years ago as it had expired,i phoned at least 10 forklift training companys up in the west mids for renewal and they said they will give me a refresher course at the price of £400…£400 just to renew your card licence is robbery!,yes and was also told to do the training you must bring YOUR MOFFETT WITH YOU as they have only c/b forklifts and reach trucks. so i looked in my garage to look if i had a spare moffett lying around but NO! i found a place in yate nr bristol who did renewals for £150 on a 2hr session.im sure they do full courses also,i will look for the address and give you an email mate,i was on class 1 with moffett @10.00 that was in 2002/3 so the rate should be a bit higher but it might be the same
thanks for the reply mate, some good info there I’d appreciate that address if you could find it. I’ve been phoning around myself, the prices are ridiculous. Did you have any problem getting work with moffett when you first passed?
For Moffett training I got this info from the head sharang at Hiab / Cargotec UK
Wheel Nut:
I got a fairly swift reply to this question with the following message;Cargotec as a company use one company as its training partner and have done for the past 10 years, I have attached the contact details of Cheshire Training. We work closely with them and I am sure that they will be able to advise on training available to you.

They do not just train in Cheshire
im actually in talks with cheshire training at the moment, things are looking good. could anybody shed any light on this? from what i can gather there are 2 training bodies in this field that i recognise - NPORS and RTITB, which one should i be targeting? if anyone has any knowlegde towards this i’d be grateful as this has threw me?
Hello mate.
the RTITB route will possibly cost more. This is due to their NORS SCHEME. you have to pay to be uploaded onto their system so they can send you a letter to remind you to renew it.
NPORS i do not know much about this but they are recognused more in the construction world and from what i hear will be the new CITB
There is also ITSSAR these are my provider of choice as they do not insist on stupid registration fees. All the coursrs should be of the same standard.
For NPORS try Learning world in woodville
For Itssar and rtitb try Barloworld in westbrom i think
the problem you will find is many trainers have the ticket but few have the equipment it is similar with a hiab.
Good luck
hello goggins, this is the place i used for my renewal

i did do my original course through cheshire training but the renewal was to dear through cheshire training.like clara said no ones got the equipment only the trainers got a ticket to train.i have a NPORS card which the agencys asked when i went for interviews but this takes a couple off weeks to get to you,you will always need the training companys tel no and your NPORS card number if you have not got the card present as the agency/ company can phone up and validate you have a valid moffett licence
pm sent

… does Diesel Dave still do the ADR courses i think in Leicester
Hi goggins1234,
Yes mate, I still do ADR courses in Leicester, but I also do them all over the country on a mobile basis too.
Please remember that I am a self-employed ADR instructor, but not an ADR provider.
In order to be taught ADR by me, you’d have to make contact with the ADR provider who is running the course.

Here’s a Moffett course provider I found by searching the JAUPT website, but you’ll probably get the course cheaper if you mention that you don’t need DCPC hours:

I’d say that your chances of getting a job on fuel tankers are quite slim, but not impossible.
If you’re a first-timer on ADR, my tip would be to save the money that you’d pay for a tanker module because it’s unlikely that you’d actually need it.
goggins1234:

I strongly advise against trying to study anything to do with ADR in advance of a course, because you’d have no idea of which subject areas to study, nor at what depth. IMHO, it’s far easier for you to book a course, then use the materials that the provider MUST give you.
Has anyone got any advice on any further training additional licenses that would be very benificial to a class one driver who’s just that little bit bored and been thinking about doing extra work tasks to make work life more interesting. Heard about the moffet, hiab adr. What advice would anyone please have.

And as if by magic a mod appears and moves it.
Which of course means the 2 posts above this one, now make no sense.
