Thought it would be a good idea to put tipper related rants, comments etc together in one place so here goes with the first…
Sheeting. Why do so many people get upset when they see a tipper leave a quarry unsheeted? My autosheet was broken most of last week so naturally I was kept off dusty loads but even on muck sand and gravel, nosy drivers were telling me I hadnt sheeted. Trust me, our sharp sand’s never been dry enough to blow off.
Anyone else care to rant?
What about " What a bloody cheek all these motors using the road the same time as me, and not getting out of my way to let me pass, who the hell do they think they are" That,s the impression I get anyway
why do loader drivers think they know to the exact kilo what they dump on ya.and dont like being told the yput on too much!

It’s dry enough to blow into the face of the biker behind you.
Lafarge seat belt rule!!! Dont wear a seat belt then its a ban from site…all well and good but the quarry speed limit is 10 mph ffs!!
Why at Tarmac I have to wear Orange trousers, long sleeve hi viz vest, hard hat, boots and saftey glasses when out of the cab yet when ■■■■■ joe is loading black he’s on the back of his transit tipper AS the black is coming down without ANY PPE!!

Sharp sand isnt usually dry enough to do that…however soft sand thats been sitting idle for months will!

Whatever it is it bloody stings!
a lot of the quarries i used to load from wouldnt let you leave unsheeted, and its better for fuel economy having it sheeted

A lit of what blows is falling from the tailgate hinge/around the pushblock. Weve got semi bulk bodies so with a tap of the brakes the loads below the bodysides.

I used to work for Hansons and seem to remember that if you got seen going out without sheeting up resulted in a ban from the quarry, i’m pretty sure its also regulation in all the other major quarries as well.
I now work for a local company that does muckshifting and if we’re on a short turnaround then i won’t bother (mainly due to having a manual wind on sheet) but if there’s any distance involved then I sheet up everytime as its more fuel efficient. God I miss my electric sheet!!!
While we’re on the subject of ranting…why is it in the 4 years of having my EPIC card the only quarry to ask to see it is Lafarge■■? Thankfully I always carry it with me for this reason…
If we still had strong unions they would never have got away with some of the rubbish, they all knew what they were doing when they got rid of their own fleets and went for od,s and hired haulage.I dont like the unfair hours it is built around long haul ,cant be botherd to go into it but it is unfair
allways seen as hell drivers.
Always seem to drive better than most artic drivers
Tipper drivers not cleaning up when loaded. riding my motorbike behind 1 couple of years back, suddenly an almight bang on the visor of my helmet (good job it was shut). A rock had come off the side of the tipper and could of been a nasty accident for me. Have noticed many times since tippers with dirt and rocks where they should’nt be.
Speaking as an ex tipper driver many moons ago my main gripe is the “real truckers bull” you get to hear when on break, in yard, cb etc.
As a tipper driver myself the only time i run with my sheet off is when i"m running empty even that is frowned on by the boss for fuel consumption reasons.
We are given a uniform to wear (no rigger boots ) we get regular training aswell
All the kit we get is quite new the 06,07,and some 08reg trucks are being sold off
The money is ok for the work we do everything is serviced on the dot no exceptions
As with any job there are bit that pee you off is that so in any job
Most machine drivers i deal with have on board weighers so over loading isnt a problem
So Tipper Driver Gripes not really

Altitude’ll know who I’m referring to when I say we’ve a right ■■■■■■■ shovel driver with an attitude who when I’ve checked my payload with my weighloader and ask for say half a ton, attitude refuses because his shovel weigher says I’m right. Weighbridge asks me to top up I refuse as I’ve asked once and been ignored so bollox to 'em. Im not an od so payload is of no concern to me unless I’m overweight…
Usually the dicks that load muck on sites, the only good digger drivers are the ones that used to drive tippers themselves!
nought as modern as in cab weighers over here ,just a gauge on axle group …bit more work wi 2trailors lol
eg gauge on unit around 60lb…middle axles about 80lb …end dump 65-70lb
can be done wi middle sized loaders bu tno the big cats as the buckets to big …a little on the back and the middles of the scale!!

I’ve noticed that red lights mean nothing to tipper drivers in the dead of night. Not only lights that have just changed to red either, but blatant red lights with queuing traffic waiting. Why bother even slowing down to check if anything’s coming when you can barrel through on the limiter safe in the knowledge that if you hit an innocent motorist obeying the rules, chances are they’ll be reduced to a pile of twisted metal and bone while you might just drop your sandwich or spill your coffee?
Overloaded lazy arse tipper drivers who feel it is their duty to dump half the load progressively down their route, just ■■■■■■■ tighten the tailgate up properly.
And don’t get me started on the muppet plant transport drivers, who feel it is OK to drive along with boulders the size of small cars flying off the bed 'cause they are to lazy to do a quick sweep of the bed.
