20% Breaking the Law at Police Check in Belgium

Hope this is in the right part of the forum.
Taken from Belgian newspaper.
During the night of 20th October to 21st October 2011 motorway police in Belgium held a large control of heavy good vehicles.
100 trucks were checked.
20 drivers were found guilty of tacho fraud. 9 of them guilty of using a magnet to manipulate the tacho.
Of the 20 drivers 5 were Belgian and 15 foreigners ( Italian, German,Dutch,Lithaunien, Portugese,Slovenian and Rumanian - no British or Irish :open_mouth: )
There was for €50100 fines handed out that had to be paid immediately.
€2400 fine for each of the magnet users and a compulsory 45 hr break.
Thats getting expensive …

Sounds like the magnet users got off lightly. 2400 euros and a slap on the wrist.

Or would they have been reported for the offence to a court and it just wasn’t reported in the article.

thick as [zb]. why not wait until they get to holland before attaching a sticky nut?

But once again it shows, that the British are upholding the law and abiding by the rules when it comes to road transport, yet foreign companies in the main will stop at nothing to get as many loads in as possible.

Ken.

and will go out of there way to undercut, but that’s another topic lol

And the two go hand in hand.

The more loads a vehicle can do, the more they can ■■■■■ the rate to the customer.

Or it could show that being in Belgium at that time and location the Brits and Irish were a statistical minority

That kind of broad sweeping crass remark is no better than Daily Mail-esque bigoted crap at it’s best :unamused: :unamused: The, “95% of lorries stopped were found to have mechanical faults” when most of them were as simple as a bulb and they were pulled because of that in a targeted manner, type of biased uninformed media hype. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

The other classic is a driver gets pulled for only having a 8:55 rest period. By the time the journalists have twisted it will be reported that the driver had driven for 2 days without a break.

All that means is that the Brits know more short cuts and the Belgians are stupid enough to have one major control, plus the fact our camouflage is better than theirs :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

€50100 in ONE night ■■ bloody 'ell , that’s twice the Belgians *GDP for a whole year :open_mouth:

  • Gross Domestic Product

How many British registered vehicles were stopped in the checkpoint?

No, it just goes to show that there are less and less British Trucks driving in europe these days!!

Agreed. Because British hauliers have bent over for a shafting by the goverment. They deserve all they get. Fair play to the euro’s for caining it. Business is business, alls fair in love and war. :grimacing:

All those lights and he still hit the train :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
